Blobber98102 (2 years ago)
For highschool, you should be at least 15, but they may allow younger students if they are bright. My program is AFS.
Jonah Ruiz (2 years ago)
Declan1337tarry-ps4master 1337 I don't think so. And you should take Japanese before going on an exchange program. Cause the classes are in Japanese.
Quentin Bradley (2 years ago)

Hails_rosy (3 years ago)
Hi! so I'm hoping to do a foreign exchange to Japan for my sophomore year of high school and I am currently going into my freshman, so I was wondering, how long did it take you to learn Japanese, and what do you think is the minimum amount to learn for doing an exchange, because I'm a little nervous and I don't know how much I can master in a year, do you have any tips in learning the language? THANKS
Hails_rosy (3 years ago)
+Christina Redfield thanks so much 😊
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
As for learning the language, start at the basics. I would recommend learning as many words as you can so you can understand the conversation, but also invest your time into simple to intermediate grammar. Go over your vocabulary cards before you go to bed and after you wake. Conversation Japanese is key! If you can, find a native speaker, say you want to talk in Japanese and only Japanese (of course with explanations if needed). Put labels on items in the house and read them every time you use or see that item. Verbs are also key! Hope that helps some! Good luck and thanks for watching!

Knightgalia (3 years ago)
how much did it cost? I've been interested in foreign exchange programs, but I'm super poor so I don't think I'll be able to afford it...
Jessica Cruz (1 year ago)
Research programs I'm signing up for Japan and I could go for free because of scholarships there are some that offer that so you can study abroad for free so the only thing I'd pay for is the plane ticket
sims__for__life_ (2 years ago)
Could you give me the link that you used? Haha sorry, I looked for it but the website was crap :/
Christina Redfield (2 years ago)
I spoke about it a little more in my first video
Christina Redfield (2 years ago)
You can seek them out. I stumbled upon them and took it on from there :D

+Christina Redfield were you already part of the rotary program in your area? In my are you have to be a part of the rotary program/club to study abroad with them, and in my area you have to be INVITED just to join the rotary club....

Samantha Sweet (3 years ago)
I am like.........😭😭😭😭😭😭I hate math!!!!
Natalie Delarosa (3 years ago)
THIS SOUNDS SO EXCITING. Im into anime and stuff and I really want to do an exchange to japan. I already signed up for my local rotary and I'm on the poorer side of things so I'm hoping I can get a job or something to go towards it. My worst fear though is that my grades will turn to ruin because I haven't learned Japanese :( do you have any more advice on keeping your grades up or even how grades there compare to grades here in the US (im from nj)
Phương Dương (2 years ago)
Natalie Delarosa sorry cause I don't understand English that much
Phương Dương (2 years ago)
Natalie Delarosa what is local rotary
Ekron b (3 years ago)
Wait what grade are you in?
Ekron b (3 years ago)
Oh.So you went in junior year?
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
When I return I will be a senior
JustSomeone Here (3 years ago)
In Europe you do math calculations by yourself too. This is the first time when i hear that in US you do it with an electronic device. No wonder why Americans are they way they are :)
JustSomeone Here (3 years ago)
Darling, in my country and the countries near it are no calculators used, no matter how hard the math is. This video was where i first heard that there are schools in the world who let students/pupils to use calculators. If you do that here, you get back into the 3rd or 5th grade to learn multiplication or equation solving. :)
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
That's quite the stereotype, darling. Usually in my school back in Texas we have the calculators because our questions happen to be much more advanced. However, in Japan I find the numbers to be very simple and easy to manage (keep in mind that I am taking an ADVANCED math course IN JAPANESE). There are many different states in the United States of America, (if you were referring to the country and not one of the two continents) and every state has their own way with education and teaching, so I do not speak for all of the states when I say we use calculators. Thank you for your time.

I don't know any Japanese and I want to study in japan.... any advice? any experience advice anyone?
Michelle (3 years ago)
I really Enjoyed watching that. It was so nice to get some impressions of an Exchange student. (& btw. your really pretty) ♡ And if u don't mind can i ask like how much a year cost ?
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Michelle Weise Thank you! It costs about 4,500 with Rotary (which is a good deal compared to many other organizations).
Lord Sith Lego (3 years ago)
I commend people that can do these student exchange programs. I don't like the thought of living in a stranger's home and using their space and utilities. However, it provides a bigger immersion into the foreign culture compared to just being a regular tourist I suppose. I wanted to save money for a trip to Europe but with how so much trouble is brewing there with the refugees, for I might try Asia. Only problem is I have to use flights to visit a number of countries there instead of just using the train like in Europe.
unknown unkown (3 years ago)
I have a question . I was wondering how much it would cost for someone to stay in japan and I host family for a 13 year old .
unknown unkown (3 years ago)
+Christina Redfield its alright thank you anyway . my dad said no when I asked . I was sad.
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)

stacii jordann (3 years ago)
+Christina Redfield Even if i did that they probably wont hear me out. Out of all of the kids i make the best grade, and very social. but ill try all the things you said and do you have any recommandations for a 15 year old for a company

Patholgoic (3 years ago)
+Christina Redfield well I just turned 19 but I'll see what I can do! Thank you miss!
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Ryan Yates With Rotary you can register until you turn 19! So sure! I'm sure you can find college programs too!
Elisa Kho (3 years ago)
Is it okay if you exchange to UK other than Japan? I was thinking exchanging to the UK
Elisa Kho (3 years ago)
@Christina Redfield ok! Thank you! I have 2 years to decide
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Elisa Kho (yuichiro hyakuya) Yes! However, Rotary has a policy that states native English-speakers can't go to another native-speaking country. But there are so many other countries to explore! A new language is a new view of life! Either way, exchange is awesome! Good luck!
Oopla (3 years ago)
I actually really liked this video,I normally find ones like this boring and all the same but I really enjoyed watching this one! x

This is all so true haha. Hope you're enjoying your exchange :D
Doğa Dixon (3 years ago)
hi christina i will be going to japan next year but im so scared because they say the lessons are so hard is it true because i dont study i just listen the lesson and because i dont know japanese i wont be able to listen it as well.
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Doğa Dixon The lessons (at my school at least) are about Pre-AP (Honors) level, but as an exchange student, I doubt they will require you to do any of the work. What I usually do is take the work home and find words or a kanji that I don't know and study that instead (only when I want to). Don't worry about the school there! Just have fun and make friends!
Krystal 707 (3 years ago)
Me too, I only have 5 minutes in between each class. Oh how I wish there was at least 10 minutes.

nicki nick (3 years ago)
was it hard to learn Japanese? And what is the lowest grade you can transfer into ( for example 7th,8th etc) and do many people know english?
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+nicki nick If you put dedication into it, you should be fine! Despite most stereotypes, most (mainly all) of the Japanese people do not know English. I would urge anyone who is going to Japan to learn at least some Japanese before going. With Rotary, you can only go while in high school, but there are possibly other programs out there that allow younger students to go on exchange. I would recommend high-school exchange, seeing that Japanese students would be more open and aware of exchange students.
Nanoria Bates (3 years ago)
Hello! I want to be an exchange student in Japan, but I was wondering if it's fun? I watched another girl's videos and she said that going to school in Japan is stressful and that she wasn't happy. I guess everyone's experience is different, but I just wanted to ask you. Btw, do you have to do homework?
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Nanoria Bates It depends solely on the person on exchange. I know that one can undoubtedly have a great time on exchange. It all depends on your mindset! Sometimes things get stressful, but that is life and is expected especially since one usually doesn't understand what some people are saying. I don't have to do usual homework, but I do have to do my Japanese homework that my Japanese tutor gives me. I would still recommend you go on exchange though!
Paulina Rodriguez (3 years ago)
How did you convince your parents to let you go to Japan?
Paulina Rodriguez (3 years ago)
+Christina Redfield Thankyou soo much!!
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Paulina Rodriguez I made a list and showed them how much it meant to me by studying every day.
Jake Wiles (3 years ago)
I wanna be an exchange student soooooo bad but my Dad is SO against Japan because I watch anime :(
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Chantelle Aniceto Haha! I was 15 when I came here! It's an amazing growing experience! Japan is REALLY ridiculously safe! Let me know how things go! Try to do research with your mom! How old are you? Good luck!!
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+かずらいんきりがや I'm sorry :( I don't really think it's fair to stop someone from achieving their dreams because they watch anime. There is so much more to exchange than that. Maybe show him you want to go to Japan for more educational reasons like learning a new culture and language and even a new mindset! I hope everything goes well, and don't worry if it doesn't! You have college! Start saving up soon!
Chantelle Aniceto (3 years ago)
I want to be an exchange student too .. But it's my mom that doesn't want me to go because I'm "too young" ..I made a lot of Japanese friends from like other exchanges and I want to visit them so bad😭
Person Anon (3 years ago)
I support your dad.
Carolyn Sibley (3 years ago)
I'm hoping to go to Japan at some point with Rotary, perhaps in two years, it depends. How long before should you sign up at Rotary? I heard that you should probably sign up a year in advance, but what would you recommend?
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Carolyn Sibley I signed up and took the interviews (sounds scary but it really isn't- trust me!) in November, got told I was going to Japan late December, and left for Japan the following August. I think you should talk to your local Rotary about when the best time will be for you to apply for the exchange program! Hope that helps some!
Raido Nato (3 years ago)
do u like Japanese guy!? i think some of them are cool, very cool, but some are really bad and look bad (i be honest)! and do u like know about Johnny and AKB!?
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Raido Nato Haha! Honestly, I'm not allowed to date while I'm here, but yeah, some Japanese boys look pretty nice ;D haha
Manny Vazquez (3 years ago)
How did you learn Japanese I want to learn it so bad but I don't know we're to learn it at heeeellllp plz
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Manuel Vazquez On my first video I mention a few books, websites, and programs that I used to learn Japanese. If you have any more questions, let me know!
Daniel Lugo (3 years ago)
Lol this is so true. I just came back from a Japanese Exchange. What part of Japan are you staying at?
Daniel Lugo (3 years ago)
+Christina Redfield I went to Kōbe! How long are you going to be there for? What do you plan to do after you are done?
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Daniel Lugo I'm in Yamagataken (it is snowing like crazy now!) Where did you spend your exchange?

Jarod Nguyen (3 years ago)
Hi, I'm actually going to Japan next year with Houston rotary! Any advice?
Yasmeen Mohammad (2 years ago)
youre so frikking pretty what the heck XDDD
Christina Redfield (3 years ago)
+Jarod Nguyen There is so much advice I could give you! But some of the big things are: 1.) Be open-minded to new experiences 2.) Get out of your comfort zone! 3.) Don't do stupid things Hope that helps some!
