BARTER EXCHANGE OR BARTER EXCHANGE SYSTEM Direct exchange of goods against goods without use of money is called barter exchange. Alternatively, economic exchanges without the medium of money are referred to as barter exchanges. An economy based on barter exchange (i.e., exchange of goods for goods) is called C.C. Economy, i.e., commodity for commodity exchange economy. In such an economy, a person gives his surplus good and gets in return the good he needs.

DISADVANTAGES OR PROBLEMS OF BARTER EXCHANGE SYSTEM Double Coincidence of Wants The wants of the two persons who desire to exchange goods must coincide. For example, if person A wants to acquire shoes in exchange for wheat, then he must find another person who wants wheat for shoes. 2. Absence of Common Measure of Value The absence of a common measure of value creates great problem because a lot of time is wasted to strike a bargain. Since there is no common measure in terms of which the value of a commodity can be expressed, the problem arises how much wheat should be exchanged for how many pairs of shoes. In fact, under the barter system, every good must be expressed in terms of every other good. 3. Lack of Divisibility: Another difficulty of barter system relates to the fact that all goods cannot be divided and subdivided. In the absence of a common medium of exchange, a problem arises, when a big indivisible commodity is to be exchanged for a smaller commodity. For example, if the price of a horse is equal to 10 shirts, then a person having one shirt cannot exchange it for the horse because it is not possible to divide the horse in small pieces without destroying its utility. 4. The Problem of Storing Wealth: Under a barter system, there is absence of a proper and convenient means of storing wealth or value, (a) As opposed to storing of generalized purchasing power (in the form of money) in a monetary economy, the individuals have to store specific purchasing power (in the form of horses, shoes, wheat etc.) under the barter system which may decrease in value in the due course of time due to physical deterioration or a change in tastes, (b) It is very expensive to store specific goods for a long time, (c) Again the wealth stored in the form of specific goods may create jealousy and enmity among the neighbours or relatives. 5. Difficulty of Deferred Payments: The barter system does not provide a satisfactory unit in terms of which the contracts about the deferred (future) payments are to be written. In an exchange economy, many contracts relate to future activities and future payments. Under barter system, future payments are written in terms of specific goods. 6. Problem of Transportation: Another difficulty of barter system is that goods and services cannot be transported conveniently from one place to another. For example, it is not easy and without risk for an individual to take heaps of wheat or herd of cattle to a distant market to exchange them for other goods. With the use of money, the inconveniences or risks of transportation are removed.

Barter for Trade in Exchange
Barter is the process of trading products, goods or services, for other products, goods or services. It is a simple method of transaction, frequently one in which no money is exchanged. Barter systems are often utilized between nations, and sometimes between a nation and a corporation. Barter also occurs between corporations or companies and other businesses, and sometimes between a business and an individual, or two individuals. In the United States, billions of dollars worth of goods and services are exchanged each year through bartering. If your business has built up idle capacity or has a large inventory, then bartering offers a means to move goods and improve your operations. Bartering has been a huge boost to companies during recessions to help move excess inventory and goods. If you have aging inventory or an outdated asset, then bartering can make sense for your business. Any business struggling with the ebb and flow of having a seasonal business can use barter exchange of goods and services during a slow period. Many small businesses at certain periods during their business lifecycle will have periods of slower cash flow or limited capital. Start-ups and expansion companies with limited money for growth can use bartering as a strategic tool to acquire needed services. Although bartering seems like a great way to save money, or to avoid paying taxes, bartered goods and even most services are considered revenue and therefore must be reported in the year in which they are obtained. Consult with an accountant or the IRS for more information regarding how bartered goods are taxed. To learn more about bartering your goods and or services, please visit: http://trade-in-exchange.com

9 Disadvantages Of Barter System
1. Double Coincidence of Wants: The wants of the two persons who desire to exchange goods must coincide. 2. Lack of a Common Measure of Value. 3.  Indivisibility of Goods: The barter system of exchange was not applicable in case of goods that lose their utility if divided into parts. 4.  Lack of Store Value: It is risky to store savings and surpluses in terms of commodities that deteriorate in value with the passage of time.  5. Inconvenience in Lending and Borrowing: 6. Problem of Transportation:  It is not easy and without risk for an individual to take heaps of wheat or herd of cattle to a distant market to exchange them for other goods.  7. Lack of Specialisation: A high degree of specialisation is difficult to achieve under the barter system. 8. Lack of Standard of Deferred Payments:   Commodity money fails to qualify as a standard mode of payment which the agreeing parties may accept without questioning its quality and quantity to be transferred. 9. Inconvenience in Government Receipts and Payments: Under the barter system it is extremely difficult for a government to collect taxes because there are certain issues like types of taxes, different goods, collection and storage problems.

Evolution of money
The Evolution of money started with the Barter system. People exchanged goods with goods since they did not have any currency. Barter system needed a Double coincidence of wants which meant people needed to find a person who was willing to give in exchange the exact commodity they wanted to exchange the with the commodity that they had. At the same time there was no system to find out the Exchange value of commodities. China introduced the first coins and later introduced paper money also. Alexander the great was the first King to have his impression made on the coin. Other systems of trade that existed earlier included Silent trade. Now people use Plastic money since it is easier and safer to carry. Robomate is India’s largest curriculum based study platform for online and offline lectures from classes 7 onwards. Ancient Barter system still exists in India - Jonbeel mela, Assam
For hundreds of years people have been using money as a medium to trade things. Essential commodities as well as precious gems and metals. The whole world depends upon on this system but in the State Assam which lies on the northeastern part of India people still barter for essential commodities. This happens only in a fair known as Joonbeel Mela, a community fair in Assam. It is a three-day community fair celebrated during Bhogali Bihu or Magh Bihu which falls somewhere is mid January, and is usually the end of the harvesting season. The Joonbeel Mela dates backs several centuries and is a most attractive and unique festival. It takes place at Dayang in Joonbeel in Assam. It attracts large crowds and is famous for its barter system which comes alive when people - mostly tribes from different places come all the way to join this community fair. During the Mela, a huge market or bazaar is held for people to exchange their goods with people from other areas. Goods like herbs, dried fish, ginger, spices, and fruits are bartered for rice, pithas, fish and other produce, which cannot be grown in this hilly area. Tribal communities such as Tiwa, Khasi, Jayantia and Karbi descend the hills prior to the fair with their products to barter them in the Mela and to enjoy the Mela with harmony and brotherhood with the other tribal communities. While bartering they compare each other’s goods before finally making the exchange. The king of the Tiwa tribe, Gobharaja visits the mela to collect taxes (interview – About Gobharaja). Other than bartering, Joonbeel Mela features Community fishing which marks the beginning of the Mela that usually takes place in the wetlands of Joonbeel (community fishing footage….). Before the start of Joonbeel Mela an Agni puja or fire worship is held for the well being of the people there and for a good harvest for next season. All kinds of merchandise stalls are available at the Mela and are visited by the vibrant crowd. Traditionally followed customs like cock-fights are also performed even though this is now banned in most states in India. Joonbeel Mela is not only about fun and brotherhood but is a tradition that has been followed for ages. Certified Barter Specialist | Become A Barter Exchange Owner | www.CertifiedBarterSpecialist.com How to EASILY Earn $15,000 Per MONTH Running Your Own Barter Exchange Barter is the oldest form of business on Earth. It still works like gangbusters. Open your Barter Exchange and businesses will literally RUN to work with you. If you’re interested in Get Rich Quick or MLM, this is NOT it. Barter is the oldest form of business and it’s more popular than ever. These days when money is tight, businesses LOVE to barter. Instead of paying Joe to fix their parking lot, the Chiropractor fixes Joe’s back in exchange for his work. The donut shop trades several dozen donuts to the radio station for on air giveaways. The station gets donuts, the donut store gets free advertising. Even lawyers, doctors, and accountants use barter. When they have more clients than they can handle, they send those clients to another practitioner. Later, when the other practitioner has too many clients, she will send them back to the person who helped her. Businesses LOVE Barter They can usually exchange something they stock or make for a higher value. For example, my business buys oil filters for practically nothing. I’ll trade a box of filters to the repair shop to fix my car. In real dollars, the repair would cost me more than the oil filters. Barter turns out to be a real bargain. Barter takes place on much larger levels, too. There are major corporations who do agreements with each other to trade surplus goods and services. The accountants do some magic with numbers and everybody wins. Stock prices go up! But There’s a Basic Problem With Barter Barter is a very old way of doing business. 100 years ago there simply wasn’t much money in America or anywhere else in the world. Entire banks were capitalized at just $35,000. So when people didn’t have money to spend, they would barter. Farmers brought eggs to town to trade the dry goods store for chicken feed. In a way, barter is still stuck in the past. Most barter deals are arranged one at a time and usually for small amounts of value. It’s hard to keep track of barter. If you’re not careful, you’ll trade away too much while getting too little in return. It’s also hard to get a lot of barter deals lined up. Businesses have to make lots of calls and spend oodles of time talking with owners and managers. Most businesses don’t have time to do all the work themselves. The BIG SOLUTION That Makes Barter The Star Of Modern Business Quite a number of businesses have discovered a marvelous solution that makes Barter EASY and very advantageous. They insist on using a well organized Barter Exchange. And Barter Exchanges are BOOMING! The Barter Exchange attracts businesses of every type who have something they want to trade. The Exchange also uses modern management and accounting methods to keep track of trades and make sure everyone gets the best deal. Instead of beating the bushes for a barter partner, businesses can simply tap into the Barter Exchange for a long list of people who are ready and willing to trade. When businesses, like those above are in a Barter Exchange, everything becomes far more efficient. Joe fixes the parking lot for the donut shop. The donut shop provides donuts for the office meeting at the attorney’s office. The attorney gets an adjustment from the chiropractor who advertises on the radio. Everybody works together in an astounding network of efficiency and mutual benefit. No wonder this concept is taking the country by storm. There is a HUGE need for Barter Exchanges everywhere. This marks a remarkable opportunity for YOU to start your own Barter Exchange and profit handsomely for your efforts. You charge a small fee for every transaction that goes through your exchange. 12% on each transaction in a barter exchange of just 250 members selling and buying JUST $500 in goods and services each month can result in income of $15,000 a month. Add members and transactions and you create additional income. Wow! Think about it. How would $15,000 or MORE per month change YOUR life? * Pay off bills * Buy a new luxury automobile * Live in ANY neighborhood * Send the kids to college * RETIRE YOUNG! But WHERE do you learn how to start and run your own Barter Exchange? Right HERE, of course. We have multiple levels of training that can help anyone become a rather wealthy Barter Exchange owner.

A Brief History of Money - The Barter System to the Modern Economy
Money makes the world go round but we didn’t always have it. Before money, we used what’s called a barter system, this is where you simply trade what you have for what you want or need. It might seem simple but in reality it was quite complicated as the person who has what you need doesn’t necessarily want what you have. The solution to this problem was to use a medium of exchange in order to mediate trades, otherwise known as money. In order to qualify as money an object needs to be capable of fulfilling three tasks. It needs to be a medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value. Not everything can fulfill these requirements and some things have proven far better at it than others. Gold and silver, for instance, are excellent but it’s been cowrie shells, gold, clay tablets and nothing more than numbers on a screen. However, whenever the object used as money isn’t limited by nature we tend to make far too much of it. This is called monetary inflation and I plan to make a video about it eventually. A book I read, also a documentary, called The Ascent of Money by Niall Fergusson inspired this video. In it, he details the humble beginnings of currency it evolved over the years. He also discusses key developments in history from the Medici bank, to the worlds first ever joint-stock company, the Dutch East-India company. The history or money spans the course of civilization. Starting in Ancient Mesopotamia, where the people used clay tablets, all the way to the modern day where we essentially just used numbers on a screen. Australia gets a mention because after all, we have a hell of a lot of gold here and Australia is just awesome, of course. You can also lookout for a very famous banking family, the Rothschild's. It rules our lives and rules the human economy, it dominates our lives. This is A Brief History of Money by Matty’s Modern Life. Barter System and its Limitations | Problems with Barter Chp 9 Macro Economics
Introduction: Barter means the exchange of goods or commodities. In ancient times when money was not invented trade as a whole was on barter system. It consist if a bargain of commodity with out the help of another of exchange , such as money. Therefore, we can say that buying goods against goods is called barter system. Definition: R.H.Parker : "Barter is the Direct exchange of goods and services without the use of money as either the means of payment or a unit of account. S.H.S Sloan: "Barter is the direct exchange of commodity or service for another without the use of money". In simple words "Barter is a system in which goods and services are exchanged for other goods and services without the use of money". Difficulties of Barter system: The main inconveniences of barter system are as under: 1.Lack of double coincidence of wants: The main difficulty of barter system is the lack of double coincidence of wants. In a barter system a person who wants to exchange his goods must find some person who is willing to exchange his commodity with his commodity. For example, a person possessed wheat, which he wanted to exchange for cloth. He could not succeed in acquiring cloth until he met some one who not only had cloth but was also willing to exchange with wheat. 2. Lack of common Measure: The second short coming of barter system is the lack of any common unit in terms of which to measure the values of goods and services. In the absence of any common measure of value, the value of each commodity in the market can not be expressed as one quantity. 3.Lack of sub-division: The third serious difficulty of barter system is the lack of sub-division of commodities. there are certain commodities which can be divided without loss of value. For example the owner of cow wants to have 5 kg of sugar. The barter between the person having cow and sugar will not take place because the value of cow is much more than 5 kilo of sugar. As it is not possible to divide his cow, so no exchange will be possible between the two persons. 4. Lack of Store of Value: The barter system suffered the lack of storing the value. There is no way of storing of wealth for a long period. Some commodities lose their value with the passage of time. Some commodities, such as milk, fish, vegetable, wheat, and cotton lose value with the passage of time. Such commodities could not store for a long period. 6. Difficulty of Future Payments: The barter system suffered the difficulty of the future payments. When goods are lent to another person, the payment had to be stated in terms of certain goods. This gave rise to many problems. 7. Difficulty of Transfer of Wealth: Under barter system there is difficulty of transfer of wealth from one place to another place. Immovable property cannot be transferred to another place. The transfer of movable property is very difficult and costly. Suppose a person wants to shift one hundred heads of cattle from Faisalabad to Karachi. You can well imagine the difficulties he would face, 8. Difficulties in Tax Collection: The difficulty of barter system is the imposing and collection of tax in the form of goods. If the government is able to collect the tax in the form of goods, there would be problem of the storage of goods. If so possible, the government will face difficulties to utilize the revenue for development and non-development purpose. 9. No Capital Formation: Under barter system people are concerned with their current needs. They do not save and there is no capital formation. The difficulty of store of wealth hinders from saving ans capital formation .Thus, there is no capital formation under the barter system. 10. No Investment: The barter system suffered the lack of store of value so, there was no saving.Hence investment could not be made.
