About the video: You may have traveled a lot and wondered why you get more of one currency when you exchange it for another. If so, you have witnessed exchange rates in action, but do you know how they work? Watch the video to find out what exchange rates are, how to convert between them and the different systems which determine a currencies exchange rate. Historically the gold standard system had been used, which fixed currency to a select value of gold, held in a vault. The three main systems are the floating, managed and fixed exchange rate systems. The floating system has minimal government intervention, using supply and demand to determine the exchange rate. The managed exchange rate is allowed to be within a permitted band and a fixed exchange rate is usually pegged to a currency with the interest of being competitive in the international market. The video explains this in more detail and with helpful picture to guide you through the subject.

In business development, it’s all about the “value exchange” because the best learning comes from reciprocal relationships. So to help break through the inertia that may exist in organizations, you have to understand that BD involves so much more than this perception of sales to help drive a business forward. John Keeling, SVP of Business Development at The Motley Fool, joins us for this episode. John has had a unique career journey – he’s been an academic, started a web development company, held product management leadership roles, and all before being a business development executive. His diverse experiences have inherently fostered an interdisciplinary mindset – one that enables him to understand the value in cross-pollinating perspectives across cross-functional teams, which in turn leads to improved efforts on all sides. And what he’s learned most in his career is that “sometimes it takes an interdisciplinary approach to drive innovation.” Learn more, and find the complete show notes, at flywheelassociates.com/podcast. currency is a language for value exchange. Solarcoin energy credit uses the externality effects of a currency to incentivize global solar energy production. 1. So how does currency or money work? Where does it get its value from? 2. Many argue a currency only has value if it is convertible into gold or something else. a convertible currency is said to be “backed” by something. 3. The surprising thing for a lot of people is that most major currencies like the dollar euro and yen aren’t backed by anything. In fact the average currency has a 27 year life before it gets replaced by a new currency. We are just used to the big long term survivors, like the dollar, yen and euro. 4. currency is just pieces of metal, paper and electronic entries in a bank account. 5. This leaves us with a big question? where does currency gets it value from? 6. The surprising answer is us. Anyone who believes in a currency creates the value for that currency. 7. Now that sounds a little complicated, but let me explain. 8. Currency or money works a little like a language, the more people who agree to and understand a language, the more value that language or specific form of communication has. 9. lets use a technology example for simplicity. 10. technology talks to other technology using language protocols. Fax machines, used a protocol, VHS and Beta were recording protocols, your computer uses TCP/IP or internet protocol to connect with other computers on the internet. 11. the more users of a protocol or language the more value that protocol supports. If only 2 people or users had fax machines, cell-phones or internet devices talking in TCP/IP the protocols wouldn’t have much value. There would be limited number of people to communicate with. 12. As more users link up using a protocol more value is supported by that protocol. The links form a network. 13. Now here is where it gets interesting. Users of a currency have all agreed to a protocol for value representation. Some users speak to each other in dollars, yen or euros. the more people using a protocol the more value that network of users creates for the protocol. 14. currency is a social protocol. Gold, Yen, Dollars, Euros and Bitcoin are all social protocols using different physical and electronic means to link up users up into networks enabling value exchange. 15. Now here is the cool thing. We can look at any protocols and calculate both the total network circulating value and the value created per user. With a little bit of thinking you will realize that Gold, Yen, Dollars, Euros and Bitcoin have no intrinsic value. These protocols merely represent a social protocol for value flow. 16. Here is a table showing the value per user of a few socio-economic protocols. 17. Knowing the magic of social protocols we can create new protocols to incentivize good things. 18. SolarCoin is a new protocol built on bitcoin technology which links solar energy production and people. Anyone who produces 1MWh of solar energy receives 1 SolarCoin. 19. The SolarCoin foundation is building a network of 1m producers of solar energy. This is done by giving them free solarcoins in exchange for verified proof of solar energy production. this works out to 1 out 6 producers of solar energy. 20. This network of people will create $800m-$1 billion in value for solar energy producers globally. -- Created using PowToon -- Free sign up at http://www.powtoon.com/youtube/ -- Create animated videos and animated presentations for free. One of the many reasons we're seeing a rise in ad-blocking is that the industry has done an exceptionally poor job of communicating the fact that advertising is part of the value exchange between publishers and consumers. One sell-side player who does a good job of communicating the value of advertising is Spotify, who routinely remind their audience that they have an option to upgrade to premium in order for an ad-free experience. Users can also choose between audio and video ads. While this seems like a more obvious thing to do for a service like Spotify where the user self-selects the music, it's a practice that many other publishers could learn from, even if the choice was display vs video. Earlier this year Spotify also moved into video which they offer alongside their programmatic audio offering. Here Jonathan Forster, VP of Advertising & Partnerships EMEA at Spotify, discusses the wider Spotify proposition and the role that video plays within it.

The Thursday Stop is the time during my week that all things stop for a few minutes to reflect about my business and life. I use this time as a mental breather, to look back and forward at the direction things are going. Occasionally, I recall questions from customers and clients and share my answers with you. The essence of the Value Exchange is “You must give in order to receive.” This timeless idea is as true today as it has ever been. Marketing and sales is about the exchange of value from one party to the next, but in order to attract two parties together, some initial value must be given and received. This exchange continues indefinitely, as long as there is value to be transferred. Let’s look at the two sides of the exchange: Get more information at http://chrisrisse.com/understanding-importance-value-exchange/

What is a trade deficit? Well, it all has to do with imports and exports and, well, trade. This week Jacob and Adriene walk you through the basics of imports, exports, and exchange. So, you remember the specialization and trade thing, right? So, that leads to imports and exports. Economically, in the aggregate, this is usually a good thing. DISADVANTAGES OR PROBLEMS OF BARTER EXCHANGE SYSTEM Double Coincidence of Wants The wants of the two persons who desire to exchange goods must coincide. For example, if person A wants to acquire shoes in exchange for wheat, then he must find another person who wants wheat for shoes. 2. Absence of Common Measure of Value The absence of a common measure of value creates great problem because a lot of time is wasted to strike a bargain. Since there is no common measure in terms of which the value of a commodity can be expressed, the problem arises how much wheat should be exchanged for how many pairs of shoes. In fact, under the barter system, every good must be expressed in terms of every other good. 3. Lack of Divisibility: Another difficulty of barter system relates to the fact that all goods cannot be divided and subdivided. In the absence of a common medium of exchange, a problem arises, when a big indivisible commodity is to be exchanged for a smaller commodity. For example, if the price of a horse is equal to 10 shirts, then a person having one shirt cannot exchange it for the horse because it is not possible to divide the horse in small pieces without destroying its utility. 4. The Problem of Storing Wealth: Under a barter system, there is absence of a proper and convenient means of storing wealth or value, (a) As opposed to storing of generalized purchasing power (in the form of money) in a monetary economy, the individuals have to store specific purchasing power (in the form of horses, shoes, wheat etc.) under the barter system which may decrease in value in the due course of time due to physical deterioration or a change in tastes, (b) It is very expensive to store specific goods for a long time, (c) Again the wealth stored in the form of specific goods may create jealousy and enmity among the neighbours or relatives. 5. Difficulty of Deferred Payments: The barter system does not provide a satisfactory unit in terms of which the contracts about the deferred (future) payments are to be written. In an exchange economy, many contracts relate to future activities and future payments. Under barter system, future payments are written in terms of specific goods. 6. Problem of Transportation: Another difficulty of barter system is that goods and services cannot be transported conveniently from one place to another. For example, it is not easy and without risk for an individual to take heaps of wheat or herd of cattle to a distant market to exchange them for other goods. With the use of money, the inconveniences or risks of transportation are removed.

Quantity Theory of Money Explains that when quantity of money changes, how and what change happens in price level and value of money. Quantity Theory of Money, मुद्रा की मात्रा में परिवर्तन से कीमत स्तर और मुद्रा के मूल्य में किया परिवर्तन होता है इसकी व्याख्या करता है। The “Quantity Theory Of Money” is not a theory about money at all. Instead, it is a theory of the price-level (or inflation) which happens to emphasize the role played by the quantity of money The concept of the Quantity Theory Of Money began in the 16th century. As gold and silver inflows from the Americas into Europe were being minted into coins, there was a resulting rise in inflation. This led economist Henry Thornton in 1802 to assume that more money equals more inflation. This period 1797–1810 was a time of major change and great confusion in the British banking system, and the currency crisis of 1797 led to Thornton’s greatest contribution as an economist, for which he is most remembered today. In 1802 he wrote An Enquiry into the Nature and Effects of the Paper Credit of Great Britain. Fisher’s Equation of Exchange The transactions version of the quantity theory of money was provided by the American economist Irving Fisher in his book- The Purchasing Power of Money (1911). According to Fisher, “Other things remaining unchanged, as the quantity of money in circulation increases, the price level also increases in direct proportion and the value of money decreases and vice versa”. Supply of money = Demand for Money Ms = Md MV = PT Where, M is the quantity of money V is the transaction velocity P is the price level. T is the total goods and services transacted. Total value of money expenditures in all transactions = Total value of all items transacted What is spent for purchases (MV) and what is received for sale (PT) P = MV/T MV + M’V’ = PT M’ is bank deposit V’ is velocity of bank deposit Assumptions of Fisher’s Quantity Theory Constant Velocity of Money. Constant Volume of Trade or Transactions. Price Level is a Passive Factor. Money is a Medium of Exchange Proportional relation between Money Supply and Price level. Long Run. Full employment.
