For any queries, contact us email: [email protected] Web: http://guidanceforgraduates.com/ Like, Share and Subscribe to Guidance for Graduates YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/guidanceforgraduates Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/guidanceforgraduates/ Second Slide: As you all know, Norway has opened its doors to international students. Norway has 7 universities and 22 university colleges. All the universities and several university colleges are offering Ph.D. programs. Therefore, in this video, I will give an overview of PhD application procedure and funding options for international students. Second Slide: Duration of PhD programme The minimum duration of a PhD program is 3 years on a full-time basis. The duration of few PhD programs is over four years. In 4 year PhD programs, 25% of the time is reserved for teaching on courses for master or bachelor students. I think this is a good opportunity to gain formal training and experience in university teaching along with PhD. Third Slide: Requirements for a PhD in Norway 1. The student must have completed a Master’s degree with a strong academic record is required. Usually, a two year Masters with a thesis from a recognized institution is mandatory. 2. A Funding Plan: In order to be admitted to a PhD programme, the applicant may need to secure your funding in advance or apply for it alongside your main application. Financing is an essential requirement for acceptance to a PhD-programme in Norway. PhD-candidates are usually considered as employees of the admission university/institute in Norway. Most of the applicants receive funding from the University itself. Fourth Slide: Application Procedure for PhD in Norway Each institute/university has its own application procedure for doctoral candidates. Therefore it is recommended to contact them directly for information on how to apply. I will try to give general procedure followed by most of the Universities. 1. Fill the online application form at the respective University. 2. Submit a Project description, either complete version or preliminary one. If you are allowed to hand in a preliminary project description, a complete version must be made available within six months of admission. 3. Documentation of funding must be provided (If University funds you as a research fellow, mention that). Show the proof, if you have any other form of external funding. Fifth Slide: Required Documents Applications must be submitted electronically at the program website.

Rising - Full Circle Exchange Job Readiness Program: Refugees

03:25
EMPOWERING WOMEN REFUGEES AND WOMEN IN TRANSITION BY PROVIDING STEPPING STONES TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY OVERVIEW Our Holistic U.S. Job Readiness Training Program was launched in 2014 with a commitment to provide women with barriers to employment (refugee status, domestic violence, homelessness, welfare dependency) stepping-stones to move from dependency to self-sufficiency in a safe, supportive and loving environment. Women enrolled in the program face enormous challenges, both personally and economically, to finding and retaining the meaningful employment necessary to breaking the cycle of poverty. FCE is committed to ending that cycle by helping to stabilize the lives of every woman in our program and providing the skills and support needed to enter into entry-level positions, upwardly-mobile employment, as well as educational pathways. Through our multifaceted and holistic four-month program, we work with each trainee to create a pathway to empowerment through the following: transitional part-time employment, vital enrichment opportunities, education, mentoring and teaching daily hands-on job training skills in a non-profit social enterprise environment. Since the launch of our Job Readiness Training Program in January 2014, Full Circle Exchange has successfully graduated over 250 women from 10 different countries. Over 97% graduated the program and approximately 82% were successfully placed in full or part-time employment through our "Community Employee Partners." Our Job Readiness Training Program to date has logged over 115,000 paid on the job training hours and workplace readiness skills, taught over 24,000 hours of ESL classes on-site, and over 5000 hours of supplemental education and emotional readiness (financial literacy, art and music therapy, group counseling, and other enrichment programs). In addition, over 7,800 hours have been logged by over 950 incredible and generous volunteers (learn more here) Our program has been recognized by the U.S. State Department of Refugees and Immigration as well as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as one of the most innovative programs in the country. In addition, our contributions to the State of Idaho have been recognized by the Governor and the First Lady. Learn more about our holistic approach to self sufficiency and our "FOUR PILLARS OF EMPOWERMENT" https://www.fullcircleexchange.org/pages/our-model-of-empowerment Through our multifaceted approach, we work with each woman to create a pathway to empowerment through 4 components: 1. TRANSITIONAL INCOME - Part Time transitional Job (4 Month program), flexible work schedule for family obligations, transportation challenges, and job placement support. 2. JOB READINESS - Soft skills that are lacking in entry level applicants, resume building, interview training, work etiquette, leadership training, goal setting 3. EDUCATION GROWTH - English Classes, computer skills training, financial literacy, Career Pathways 4. EMOTIONAL GROWTH - Art and music therapy and mentorship HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP! 1. MAKE A DONATION - Your donation helps expand our U.S Job Readiness Program and empowers women at risk around the globe (donations are tax-deductible and 100% will go towards the programs). 2. SPREAD THE WORD - Tell your friends, tell your co-workers and become a part of the community! Your support will help make a positive impact and transform the lives of women around the world. International Student Exchanges: Remarks by Assistant Secretary Stock

06:46
Today, we launch International Education Week with the release of the 2010 Open Doors annual report on international student mobility. International education is an economic and strategic imperative for the United States. The Open Doors report reaffirms America as the preferred destination for international students looking for an outstanding education. International enrollments in U.S. higher education institutions are at the highest levels ever. The benefits of these exchanges can be seen both at home and abroad. In the last academic year alone, nearly 700,000 international students attended our colleges and universities adding nearly $20 billion to the American economy. And after their studies here, these students return home to become leaders who understand our society and values. In turn, as Americans study abroad in a growing number of countries, they are better prepared to compete in a global economy. Last week, in speaking about exchanges, our Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, said it best, "Diplomacy does not just happen between government officials. It also happens between individuals, through people to people connections and student exchanges. These are some of the most important people to people connections we can have. For hundreds of thousands of students each year, exchanges promote mutual understanding and bring people of different nations together to share ideas and compare values. They also nurture leadership skills that prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century. The Department of State remains committed to these exchanges and we strongly support expanding study abroad opportunities to a diverse range of communities so that talented students around the world can tap into the power and possibility of international exchanges." During International Education Week, the State Department is highlighting the importance of study abroad opportunities, like the Gilman Scholarship for students from diverse backgrounds. Because of limited financial resources, these students have often not taken part in exchange programs. Earlier this morning, I met with five Gilman Scholars, who studied in Egypt, India, Japan, Jordan and Spain. Please stand and be recognized. This scholarship, named for the distinguished former New York Congressman Benjamin Gilman, supports study abroad for American undergraduates. Since its inception in 2001, nearly 8,800 scholarships have been awarded to students representing 894 colleges and universities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. They studied in 116 countries world worldwide. Participation in the Gilman program from African-American, Latino, and Asian communities is two to three times greater than other U.S. study abroad programs. Nearly half of the Gilman scholars are first-generation college students. I know how important this is; I was the first person in my family to go to college. I also met with five "Opportunity" scholars from Brazil, Malaysia, Russia, South Africa, and Yemen who studied biometrics, biology, engineering and international relations. Please stand and be recognized. This program provides talented international students with a way to apply for and pursue a college education in America. Going forward, the Department of State will continue to seek ways to increase these vital people to people exchanges. I invite colleges, universities and community colleges throughout the United States to join our efforts. Encourage your students to apply for Fulbright and Gilman scholarships. Support your faculty members in applying for Fulbright awards. Sign up to host visiting scholars. Connect with our global EducationUSA advising network. These advisors are eager to create strategies to recruit international students and to develop study abroad programs. This is an opportunity for American and international students to work, study, and learn together. Thank you.

Research Exchange

01:58
For the first time, nine of the nation's most prominent universities are engaging in joint mentorship, scientific collaboration, career development and guidance of advanced PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. The goal of the Research Exchange is to increase the advancement of diverse PhD students and postdoctoral fellows from participating top tier institutions into the most competitive research and teaching careers. To achieve this, we have established the Research Exchange. Through this program, the alliance will sponsor a student or postdoctoral fellow's visit with a faculty member or research scientist for a short period to learn new techniques, engage in collaborative discussion for innovative problem solving and face-to-face interaction between scientists at any of our participating institutions. The Research Exchange will support a visit to a research group at any of the partner institutions. Visits may last approximately one week and applicants will be awarded up to $1000 for intra-state visits, and up to $1,500 for inter-state visits. The goals of the program are to promote cross-institutional exchange between students and faculty across the alliance institutions, aid students in their search for postdoctoral mentors, help researchers identify future collaborators, and welcome students into the broader scientific network Apply to be matched with a researcher in your area of research at any of the participating Institutions (UC Berkeley, Caltech, Stanford, UCLA, University of Michigan, Harvard University, University of Texas, Austin, University of Washington, and Georgia Institute of Technology) by completing and submitting the application at https://www.california-alliance.org/research%20exchange-apply Ph.D. graduate students or postdocs from the nine participating institutions who are in the Mathematical, Physical and Computer Science and Engineering (MPCS&E) fields, belong to an underrepresented minority group (African American, Chicano/Latino, Native American/Alaskan Native or Pacific Islander) and are US citizens or Permanent Residents are eligible for NSF-AGEP funded visits. Future of Coaching: Calls for Coaches to Support Emotional and Social Skills

02:23:49
Sports provides a vital opportunity for skill growth, mentorship and other benefits, with the athlete-coach relationship serving as the critical element to realizing these opportunities. Many professional athletes credit a coach with setting them up for success and providing mentorship well into their careers. What if coaches were measured not by wins and losses, but by the personal growth of their athletes? Together, the Aspen Institute Sports & Society Program and National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development developed resources that youth sports coaches can use to promote social and emotional skill development in their athletes. What if coaches were measured not by wins and losses, but by the personal growth of their athletes? On March 5, the Aspen Institute Sports & Society Program partners with the Aspen Institute National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development to release Calls for Coaches, a new resource that youth sports coaches can use to promote social and emotional development in their athletes. Speakers at the event will include former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, University of Maryland men’s soccer coach Sasho Cirovski, Washington Mystics player Natasha Cloud and freelance writer Linda Flanagan (author of “How Effective Sports Coaches Help Students Feel Understood at School”).
