How to Use Collection Select in a Rails Application

19:45
This video walks through how to utilize the built in form helper, collection select, to fill in a drop down form element in a Ruby on Rails application. As you watch the video you'll see that I've left in a few mistakes that I made while building the feature, I left these in so you can see some common mistakes that developers can make when building an application, and more importantly how to fix the errors. This video teaches how to use the collection_select method in a form, how to perform a database migration to add a column and how to remove a column from a database. The code for the feature build can be found on the git commit here: https://github.com/jordanhudgens/enterpriseape/tree/3769900fe1b6c42d7dd52ea2f27c61a6c5ce6f19

Integrating a Dropdown Element into a Rails Form

13:14
In this video I walk through how to use the options_for_select method for enabling a dropdown select box for a Ruby on Rails form. I also show how to perform a database migration by adding a column to a database table, edit the application's strong parameters, and update the view to show the new data. The code for this video is located at the git commit for this feature: https://github.com/jordanhudgens/enterpriseape/tree/8f9e952c9fd92bb3040dc4f44cff604a52b1190d

Let's Build: With Ruby on Rails - eCommerce Music Shop - Cart and Line Items Setup - Part 5

21:54
Hi, My name is Andy Leverenz. I design, code, and am an author of things. Check out my blog Web-Crunch https://web-crunch.com🤘🏻 ***** PART 5 of 6 ****** ☕️Help me keep going: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/webcrunch 💻 Previously published at: https://web-crunch.com/ruby-on-rails-ecommerce-music-shop Welcome to the next installment of my Let’s Build series featuring Ruby on Rails. In this span of six videos, I’ll walk you through the concept of building an eCommerce music shop in a Rails environment. If you have followed my previous builds, I stem some ideas from those as well as establish some new ideas and techniques. Much of what is discussed I’ve covered before but there are some new concepts such as database seeding and session parameters I dive into in this series. What’s the app? ======= This series will involve creating a small start to an e-commerce application with user authentication. The application of which I call “Flanger” will revolve around selling and purchasing musical instruments. The app will use a series of models to formulate both the cart and items of which are for sale. Along the way, we will craft some handy helpers that perform calculations to total the items within our cart as well as remember who a user is if that user adds an item to a cart without being logged in. A user who has an account can post instruments for sale. What won’t we be covering? ======= Building a complete e-commerce application is quite a challenge. Often times you need user authentication, tons of options for listing items for sale, a solution for shopping carts, and of course payment options. Accepting payments is a topic I plan to cover in the future but for now, I am omitting this from the app for the sake of time and headache! If you would like to extend this app further you are more than welcome to. I personally use Stripe on other apps and have found great success with integrating it. 💻 Check out the blog: https://web-crunch.com 💡 👫 Check out my agency: https://coupleofcreatives.com 🦄 Check out my personal site: https://justalever.com 🚀 Links: Weekly Newsletter: https://web-crunch.com/subscribe Twitter: https://twitter.com/webcrunchblog Twitter(Personal Account): https://twitter.com/justalever Facebook: https://facebook.com/webcrunchblog Dribbble: https://dribbble.com/justalever Github: https://github.com/justalever Medium: https://medium.com/the-web-crunch-publication 📘Check out my book on UX Design: "LUXD: Learn User Experience Design" https://web-crunch.com/books/luxd 📙 Check out my FREE book on Tumblr Theming: "Pro Tumblr Theming" https://web-crunch.com/books/ptt 💯 Need awesome web hosting? AMAZING Extrusions in SketchUp with Extrude Tools - ALL TOOLS EXPLAINED! - Extension of the Week #47

19:05
In this video, we go through all of the tools included in Extrude Tools - TIG's amazing extrusion extension for SketchUp! Want to Support the SketchUp Essentials? http://www.patreon.com/thesketchupessentials http://www.thesketchupessentials.com/support DOWNLOAD EXTRUDE TOOLS - https://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=ExtrudeTools DOWNLOAD WELD - https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/weld The cool thing about Extrude Tools is that it allows you to extrude lines, rather than faces, giving you a whole series of new modeling options. What I wanted to do in this video was just run through the different tools and explain how each of them works. Extrude Edges by Rails – This allows you to take an edge and use other edges, or rails, to extrude it. You can use a 4th profile (a “Melding Profile”) to direct the final direction of the extrusion Options will include reverse faces, reverse rails, quad faces, and delete original edges. Extrude Edges by Rails to Lattice – This works in a similar fashion to Extrude Edges by Rails, but then allows you to create a lattice from the resulting faces Extrude Edges by Rails is very similar to the face creation by curviloft – you can select a series of lines, then generate a face with them. You can adjust the number of segments, and if the faces that are generated are quads or not. Extrude edges by edges will take 2 groups of grouped edges and use them to generate a face by extruding 1 along the other. Extrude edges by vector allows you to take an edge and extrude it in any direction you want. Extrude edges by vector to object allows you to extrude multiple items and intersect them with a face. Extrude edges by Lathe will allow you to rotate an edge in a circle, much like extruding a face around a circular shape with the follow me tool . Extrude edges by face will take a flat face that you’ve drawn and extrude it along any edge you select. Theoretically works on multiple paths at once. Extrude edges by faces will merge two faces along a rail, similar to curviloft’s loft along path function Extrude edges by rails by face will extrude a flat face along a series of rails created by curves – confused yet? Extrude by offset – create face from a line based on a defined thickness MY YOUTUBE SETUP https://kit.com/TheSketchUpEssentials/sketchup-modeling-and-youtube-creation-kit (Affiliate Links) SKETCHUP BOOKS AND RESOURCES https://kit.com/TheSketchUpEssentials/sketchup-books-and-resources (Affiliate Links) MY CURRENT FAVORITE SKETCHUP PLUGINS AND EXTENSIONS https://kit.com/TheSketchUpEssentials/my-current-favorite-sketchup-extensions (Affiliate Links) PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE Check Us Out On - Website - http://www.thesketchupessentials.com Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/easysketchup Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/thesketchupessentials Pinterest - http://www.pinterest.com/easysketchup/ Disclaimers: all opinions are my own, sponsors are acknowledged. RailsConf 2017: Decouple Your Models with Form Objects by Andrew Markle

Forms are a crucial part of every app and Rails has good defaults for building them—unless you need something complicated. Maybe you want a multi-step wizard? Or maybe you'd like to pluck attributes from any model? Validation becomes a pain point. So you introduce a state machine, or nest your models, or do some other calisthenic to get everything working. Thankfully there's a better way! This talk takes a complicated wizard and converts it into a few simple form objects—it's a deep dive on decoupling models and how you can leverage Trailblazer's Reform gem to make it even easier.
