The greatest thing about the software, Notebook, is that it is one of the best resourced libraries in any IWB software package I have ever seen. I have said for the last few years that if the Notebook software was skinned as to be more friendly to the younger child, much like the Promethean software, it would easily be the market leader by a mile! *NOT SPONSORED* As with any line of work, English teachers are required to use resources in order to improve their performance. In this particular field most courses follow a text book and there are a plethora of different names available in the marketplace. My personal favourite has always been English File from Oxford University Press. They offer comprehensive, engaging courses to learners of all levels (except proficiency, which I would like them to consider) and I have always received positive feedback from students regarding the quality of this product. As a teacher do not be put off investing in good quality materials as they are worth their weight in gold. The academic year is a long one and you can't improvise classes every week. Students need to follow a structured course and that is what is on offer here. It comes at a price but in the end offers good value.

Over the past year, public school teachers across the country have walked off the job, demanding better resources and higher pay. After a successful six-day teacher strike in Los Angeles earlier this month, teachers in Denver, Virginia and elsewhere in California, are either protesting or getting ready to strike. For teachers, the dissatisfaction about their wages is grounded in a very simple economic reality: over the past 25 years, teacher salaries have not kept up with those of other workers with a similar level of education and experience. This "teacher pay gap" reached a new high in 2017: public school teachers are now paid some 19% less than their peers. And the states that have some of the largest pay gaps in the country - like Arizona, Oklahoma or Colorado — are the ones where we've seen the biggest surge in teacher activism. Economist Dr. Sylvia Allegretto, who studies the phenomenon, says this happened because public school budgets that were cut during the Great Recession weren't upped or reinstituted during the economic recovery that followed. "The issue we're really talking about here is that we have a constant defunding of teacher pay as we have an erosion of public investment in the public school systems more generally. So that really plays into a labor market that has been broken for a long time, for a lot of people," Allegretto​ explained. In this video I explain what happens when the government controls market prices. Price ceilings are a legal maximum price and price floors are a minimum legal price. Make sure that you can draw each of them on a demand and supply graph and identify if there is a shortage or a surplus. The Fastest Path to Success in Network Marketing

Everyone would love to go full-time in Network Marketing, everyone would love to enjoy the financial and personal freedom that network marketing provides, but how does one do that? And what is the fastest way to success? In this week’s 20-minute show, Eric Worre, takes us behind closed doors and gives the key to success in Network Marketing. The fastest way to success is to improve the people that you’re spending time with. By that, Eric explains, hang around and associate with people who are a positive influence and can help you go where you want to go in life. To quote Jim Rohn, “You become the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” You will generally think how they think, go where they go, do what they do, your interests are gonna be similar, and your ambitions are gonna be similar. But if you are hanging around lazy, unmotivated, negative people, they will drag you down with them. So find people who are a positive influence on you and will help you grow your business. As Eric further explains, if you don’t know how to recruit very well, or you’re insecure in recruiting, the fastest way to become a good recruiter, is to find people who are great recruiters, and listen to those people. Same applies in other areas, such as, if you’re not good at doing presentations, find a way to develop relationships and friendships with people who are doing great presentations. This works in all categories of building your network marketing business. In the video Eric tells us of being a very young man and he wanted to learn and grow, so he absorbed every motivational, business building audiocassette he could get his hands on. He listened to all the greats. He even drove hours around the country, sleeping in his car, just so he could shadow people that he admired in the Network Marketing business, just to listen when they spoke. He did everything he could, not only did he listen, shadow and absorb every word, but by working on his inner mental game, he found a way to bring value to a conversation with people much more successful than him, thereby earning his way into their “group”. Eric explains that this type of transformation begins in your mind, but you also have to limit your association to negative people, or negative situations. But mostly you need to focus on expanding your association with positive influences and surround yourself with greatness, and the little negative things will slowly fade away... Some of Eric’s early mentors he never met, but they mentored him through video, audio, and books, and you can build associations just like that also. Feed your mind and surround yourself with people who have done what you aspire to do, is the fastest path to success in Network Marketing. In the late 19th and early 20th century in America, there was a sense that things could be improved upon. A sense that reforms should be enacted. A sense that progress should be made. As a result, we got the Progressive Era, which has very little to do with automobile insurance, but a little to do with automobiles. All this overlapped with the Gilded Age, and is a little confusing, but here we have it. Basically, people were trying to solve some of the social problems that came with the benefits of industrial capitalism. To oversimplify, there was a competition between the corporations' desire to keep wages low and workers' desire to have a decent life. Improving food safety, reducing child labor, and unions were all on the agenda in the Progressive Era. While progress was being made, and people were becoming more free, these gains were not equally distributed. Jim Crow laws were put in place in the south, and immigrant rights were restricted as well. So once again on Crash Course, things aren't so simple. That's a question we can't answer, but we can tell you how Jackson got to be president, and how he changed the country when he got the job. Jackson's election was more democratic than any previous presidential election. More people were able to vote, and they picked a doozie. Jackson was a well-known war hero, and he was elected over his longtime political enemy, John Quincy Adams. Once Jackson was in office, he did more to expand executive power than any of the previous occupants of the White House. He used armed troops to collect taxes, refused to enforce legislation and supreme court legislation, and hired and fired his staff based on support in elections. The problem with the Tell me about yourself question is that it leaves things incredibly open ended and can lead job interviewees down a path that can lead to them being disqualified from the job within seconds! It's no surprise so many people are always trying to figure just how they should be answering this question, after all it's one of the most common opening questions you'll face at an interview. I know both Mike and I screwed up this question for years. As you'll see in the video, the interviewer doesn't care about your personal story. They're not interested in the fact that you grew up with a puppy named "Tex" and that you grew up in a sleepy town in Wisconsin... They want to know about your specific work achievements and strengths! Job interview questions are all about discovering whether you can bring to the position, exactly what they're looking for in terms of abilities and qualities. Ones that are going to benefit the company you are interviewing with. The following reasons should silence the nay-sayer and help them heed the wisdom from Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach, "Teachers will not be replaced by technology, but teachers who don't use technology will be replaced by those who do.". Teachers are finding that using different classroom technologies like tablet computers, digital video, iPods, and video games are great tools for helping students learn. Kindle ereader nook 1. Students love it. Students love using new technologies in the classroom. Whether it be the "cool" factor or just a genuine interest in new technology, it allows teachers to vary activities of the day and engage students. There is no commandment for education that says, "THOU SHALT NOT HAVE FUN" Students spend hours using technology like computers and television when they get home from school--why not engage them through their favorite mediums? 2. It engages the Four Key Components to Learning. Click on the link to read how technology in education (specifically the iPod School Listening Center) engages the 4 key components to learning. 3. Professional Development. Using new technologies allow students to learn another skill set that will help them in the marketplace. How many jobs need basic computing skills let alone advanced computing skills? Any time a teacher can encourage students to learn through technology, they kill two birds with one stone. The tech industry is only getting bigger--encourage your students to know and understand technology so they can be the tech leaders of the future! With the power of the internet, knowing how to use a simple piece of technology can turn an aspiring singer into Justin Bieber (whose mom uploaded videos of him singing which led to his fame) and a hilarious prankster into YouTube Star EdBassmaster, who recently used an AmpliVox Sound Cruiser PA System in a video (that is approaching 1,000,000 views!). The use of electronic drilling in education can help students learn quickly and provide incentives like games for them to keep progressing. Nobody does this better than Khan Academy. 6. Helps Students with Low Attention Spans. Students with ADD or ADHD can be aided through the use of technology by mixing up the learning process with different methods and through providing them engaging activities to keep their interest. Technology is a favorite among teachers who teach in ESL classrooms or special education settings. Even the best teachers can have their moments or topics when they are like Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off or Charlie Brown's Teacher in the eyes of their students. Using technology keeps students awake and their attention level high. How hard is it for you to fall asleep while on the internet compared to hearing a lecture? 7. Learn from the Experts. This summer the Woodrow Wilson School hosted the 2009 New Mexico Indian Leadership Institute's Summer Policy Academy, which convened 18 Native American high school students from the Santa Fe Indian School Leadership Program to examine public policy and tribal community issues. This year's program, the second the School has hosted, focused on education, natural resources, health disparities and economic development. The Summer Policy Academy provides young Native Americans the opportunity to explore the current challenges and issues facing Indian people and examines how federal policies impact tribal communities. Students from all 19 New Mexico tribes and pueblos are nominated to participate in the program by teachers, community leaders, professionals, and tribal leaders. Through roundtable discussions, case studies and presentations by Native Americans leaders, students examined Indian policy making on the federal level and the current political climate; Indian education and the role of language and culture in education; indigenous research and policy implications; protection of natural resources and water rights; sacred sites protection policies, and economic development. The week culminated in Washington, D.C. where students presented their findings and policy recommendations to the National Congress of American Indians. The Schools Office of External Affairs interviewed participants in the Policy Academy.

In this lesson, we'll focus on six business English idioms. Even though they are somewhat advanced, follow along with me because they are used quite often. All right? Let's get started. The first one: "You need to face the facts about the drop in sales." So the idiom here is: "to face the facts". So, "to face the facts" means to accept a difficult situation. To effect... Accept the reality. Okay? Accept the truth, to deal with the truth. That's what it means to face the facts. You're not going to say: "Face the facts", if you're talking about something good. But here, you see there was a drop in sales; sales went down, so you need to face the facts, means you have to accept the hard truth or the hard reality. Next one: "Mr. Brown heads our team in NY." So, the idiom here is: "to head the team". You'll see... Here we have "face", here we have "head", and in fact, all of these, you'll have some part of the body as part of the business idiom. It's just the way I chose them. All right, so, "to head the team" means to... What do you think it means? To lead a group. All right? So, Mr. Brown is the manager, or he's the leader, or the head of this team in New York. "To head a team", that's the idiom. Next one: "The marketing dept. is footing the bill." "The marketing department is footing the bill." Again, part of the body, the foot. All right? "To foot a bill", "to foot the bill" means to take responsibility for payment. All right? I know it doesn't always make sense, and that's why it's an idiom. Okay? The individual words don't reveal the meaning to you. You have to understand the entire expression, and that whole expression is called an idiom. So, "to foot the bill" means to take responsibility for paying for something. Next one: "Our HR manager" - our human resources manager - "has an eye for selecting good people." The expression here: "to have an eye for". I should say this. "To have an eye for something" means to have a talent for something, to have the ability to notice something. All right? So, our human resources manager has the ability to select good people. All right? Next one: "Who shouldered the blame for this disaster?" "Who shouldered the blame?" Expression: "to shoulder the blame". "To shoulder the blame" means to take responsibility for something that went wrong, for a bad situation, for a difficult situation. "To shoulder the blame." Again, you see a part of the body is mentioned in each of these idioms. All right? And the last one we have here is: "Jane was in over her head at work." "Jane was in over her head". "To be in over your head" means to have too much responsibility, to have... To have something which is too difficult for you. Maybe you took a course in university and it was just way beyond your ability in mathematics or something else, so you went in over your head; it was too hard for you, too difficult for you. Okay? So: "Jane was in over her head at work." All right? So, one of the things you need to do is you need to know what... How to complete these. Right? How we complete them. So, for example, let's look at them. Try not to look up here. So if I say: what's the expression or what's the idiom? "To face the facts", "To head the team", "To shoulder the blame", "To foot the bill", "To have an eye for" - all right, I already said that - and: "To be in over your head". All right? Let's review what they mean. So which one means that you have an ability to notice something? This one: "to have an eye for something". Good. Which one means that you take responsibility when something goes wrong or you took responsibility because something went wrong? What did you do? You "shouldered the blame". Good. Okay? Which one means to accept that something bad has happened or accept the hard truth? This one: "to face the facts". Very good. What does it mean when we say: "Someone is in over their head"? It means that they've taken on something that's too difficult for them or they have too much of it. Okay? Next one: which one means that you are paying for something? Here: "to foot the bill". Okay? So play with them like that. Sometimes try to guess how they finish, sometimes try to guess the meaning. And, best of all, try to write your own sentences using these business idioms. All right?
