Chief Executive Carrie Lam continued her London visit yesterday by speaking at the Think Asia, Think Hong Kong symposium. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the event showcased Hong Kong's business services advantages for UK companies seeking opportunities in Asia. More than 1,000 people from the political and business sectors attended. Mrs Lam attended the event with Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Edward Yau and Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury James Lau. Addressing the event, she said Hong Kong is the preferred location for doing business in Asia for enterprises worldwide and welcomes British partners to explore new business opportunities in the region. "The unique advantages that Hong Kong enjoys under 'one country, two systems' and our very strong commercial links with the mainland of China, naturally, make us the preferred location for doing business in Asia. "Being the country's most international city, not only can Hong Kong benefit from the advantage of 'one country' and the convenience of 'two systems', it can also serve as a hub for international trade and investment in the (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao) Bay Area. "Fully leveraging its unique position as international, financial, transportation and trading centres, a global offshore renminbi business hub and an international assets management centre, Hong Kong will become a platform connecting the bay area with the rest of the world, bring in foreign businesses and investment, and join hands with Mainland companies to go global." Mrs Lam then met First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office of the UK Damian Green and Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox at the Prime Minister's Office. Mrs Lam said Hong Kong continues to strengthen its status as an international business and financial centre thanks to the successful implementation of "one country, two systems" and the support of the Mainland. With the rule of law and judicial independence, a clean and efficient Government, a fair business environment and a rich pool of talent, Hong Kong continues to stride forward, she added. Hong Kong and the UK have strong and long-standing ties and are close trading and business partners, she said, welcoming the Strategic Dialogue on Trade Partnership agreed by both sides to further study the strengthening of bilateral trade. She said she looked forward to closer collaboration with the UK in the areas of art and culture, and innovation and technology. Mrs Lam also attended a luncheon hosted by the All Party Parliamentary China Group at the House of Commons to discuss housing, urban planning, smart city initiatives and heritage conservation. She then met awardees under the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme who are studying in the UK. Mrs Lam said her administration attaches great importance to young people and will provide more opportunities for them by developing a diversified economy. She encouraged the attendees to return to Hong Kong after graduation to contribute to the community. Mrs Lam and Mr Yau later toured the Victoria & Albert Museum and an exhibition at the London Design Festival. They also called on Chinese Ambassador Liu Xiaoming to thank the Chinese embassy for helping Hong Kong people in the UK. (http://j.mp/2jR2DHP)

MGMT412 Service Quality Management COURSEWORK 1: Demonstrate what have the service industries contributed to the world based on Political, Economic, Social and Cultural, Technological and Environmental criteria. Team: SERVQUAL Narrator: Alex Lou Editor: Daniel Tang, Rachel Wong and Sabrina Kuok Information: Alex Lou, Daniel Tang, Rachel Choi, Rachel Wong and Sabrina Kuok This video is not interesting and very boring. As the subtitle is not in the video, the script is provided in here. Hope you will enjoy and have a better work. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Services are existed in every part of our life. Transportation, restaurants, banking, health care, education, government, military, financing, news media, tourism, and many other economic activities are service. Human society has entered post-industrial era, which human defines living standard by quality. As the result, service industries take a significant role and contribute a lot in positive and negative way. In this video, we would like to show you how service industries contribute the society in political, economic, socio-cultural, technological and environmental issues. POLITICAL CONTRIBUTION In 2003, mainland government and Macau government signed the "CEPA" and later introduced "Individual Visit Scheme". These are the examples of political service by government. Government is a service provider of political and legal services, which includes policies and laws. These services create economic, social and environmental benefits as these are the obligations of government. Like CEPA, they lead to economic dramatic development of Macau. However, the policies and laws are not always satisfying all the people. Although CEPA brings a lot of benefits, it also brings many problems, like inflation, overcrowd and pollutions. These make some residents complaint about such policy. But overall, without political service, it would influence the development of society. ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION Because of CEPA and Individual Visit Scheme, many services like restaurants, hotels, casinos and retail shops are developed and bring lots of revenue. The tax revenue from gaming industry takes a significant role in the economy of Macau, which is about 80% or more of whole revenue. This revenue can increase much more through income multiplier effect. The companies of service industries also provide employments to the people. Therefore, service industries contribute a lot to economy. In the other hand, foreign companies invest into a place as economic development. The impact of inflation and leakage existing in Macao and Hong Kong are the example of negative contribution of service industries. SOCIO-CULTURAL CONTRIBUTION To support economic development, human resource is required and IFT as a public institution of higher education provides degrees in tourism, heritage and hospitality. Many students would work in these fields and participate in the development. The institute also researches and provides suggestions about industries and society. Education and research services contribute in social and cultural issues. Nevertheless, service industries would have negative contribution to the culture, like traditional opera and music are threatened by the mass media and would be lost in the future. TECHNOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTION Technological advancement has closed relationship with service industries. As the expansion of service industries, the demand of service delivery in low cost with high efficiency is higher and this leads to advance new technology. Self-custom service and online booking system are the example of service industries contributed to technological advancement. Research and development is also considered as a service. With better technological advancement, service industries have a greater improvement. ENVIRONMENTAL CONTRIBUTION Finally, service industries contribute in environment. Greening service by government provides a better environment for residents and locals enjoy. Environmental contribution is not only included green environment but also living environment. Cycle facilities and accessible environment are facility-setting services which improve living environment of people. The light decoration can beautify the streets and improve the image to people. However, it would waste electricity and cause light pollution. The transportation and construction are also produced carbon dioxide and destroy the environment. CONCLUSION After the introducing, we understand how service industries contributed to political, economic, socio-cultural, technological and environmental development. Without service industries, the society cannot be worked properly. Therefore, service industries act a significant role in the post-industrial society. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reliability: 92%

PATRICK HO OF UBS TELLS US WHY CHINA, HONG KONG AND SOUTH KOREA ARE HIS TOP 2013 INVESTMENT PICKS. SHOWS: HONG KONG, CHINA (JANUARY 8, 2012) (REUTERS - ACCESS ALL) PATRICK HO, HEAD OF EQUITIES RESEARCH, ASIA PACIFIC, UBS WEALTH MANAGEMENT 1. REPORTER OFF CAMERA SAYING: "In terms of investment, China, South Korea & Hong Kong are your top 3 picks - why in that order?" 2. PATRICK HO SAYING: "Well China I think there is a lot of positive development in the past few months. First of all, econ momentum has picked up and I think now is consensus that the China economy will recover quite significantly in first half this year. And then earnings-wise, we think that there is strong evidence that earnings will recover as well. Of course, GDP growth will support earnings growth, but also you have better exports and also the cyclical recovery in the global economy that will support earnings as well. And don't forget that in the first 9 months of last year, earnings for China has been quite bad except financials. Now we expect that there is cyclical recovery in earnings and that will support re-rating of the market. And in terms of valuation, China is below its historical average. Still quite substantially below, so we think that there's good opportunities there. And for South Korea it's also positive because there's a cyclical recovery in the global economy, so Korea is buying beneficiary of that trend. And we look at the latest development in the domestic economy. I think the banks themselves in Korea has lowered their gearing so now they are more ready to land. This is one more positive for the Korean stock market. Hong Kong we think that the valuation is fair. We have earnings growth, that's for sure. But having said that, we look at the valuation is not cheap and then there is overhang for the property market. We think that firsthand property price are coming down, so that's put pressure on the earnings for property developers. Of course there's other positive like the consumer sentiments has improved. And we look at the retail sales they have rebound, and exports will rebound. That will also benefit Hong Kong. But all in all we think the opportunities are in South Korea and China." 3. REPORTER OFF CAMERA SAYING: "More economic data comes out of China - trade & inflation data are released on Friday, GDP is out next week. What is your forecast for 2013? 4. PATRICK HO SAYING: "For China we expect the record data to continue to improve. I think this very much the consensus now. And for the data to be released this week I think it should not be surprising. We have seen the PMI numbers, both from the official side or from the HSBC PMI data. They indicate further pickup in economic momentums. I think the data will reflect that. I think more importantly is the guidance for the 2013 record targets like loan growth, like GDP growth as well as money supply growth. These are key and we look forward to the official announcement of those record targets by the Chinese government." 5. REPORTER OFF CAMERA SAYING: "What is your 2013 China GDP growth forecast? 6. PATRICK HO SAYING: "Well we expect closer to 8% compared to 2012. Of course we need to look at the government targets in terms of investments, in terms of money supply, monetary conditions, as well as also housing."

The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions of the various nomadic groups of the Eurasian Steppe with an eye to expansion. Several walls were being built as early as the 7th century BC; these, later joined together and made bigger and stronger, are collectively referred to as the Great Wall. Especially famous is the wall built in 220–206 BC by Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Little of that wall remains. The Great Wall has been rebuilt, maintained, and enhanced over various dynasties; the majority of the existing wall is from the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). #thegratewallfochina #China #Facts The frontier walls built by different dynasties have multiple courses. Collectively, they stretch from Dandong in the east to Lop Lake in the west, from present-day Sino-Russian border in the north to Qinghai in the south; along an arc that roughly delineates the edge of Mongolian steppe. A comprehensive archaeological survey, using advanced technologies, has concluded that the walls built by the Ming dynasty measure 8,850 km (5,500 mi). This is made up of 6,259 km sections of actual wall, 359 km (223 mi) of trenches and 2,232 km (1,387 mi) of natural defensive barriers such as hills and rivers. Another archaeological survey found that the entire wall with all of its branches measures out to be 21,196 km (13,171 mi). Today, the Great Wall is generally recognized as one of the most impressive architectural feats in history. Apart from defense, other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration. Furthermore, the defensive characteristics of the Great Wall were enhanced by the construction of watch towers, troop barracks, garrison stations, signaling capabilities through the means of smoke or fire, and the fact that the path of the Great Wall also served as a transportation corridor.
