University of Michigan HR - Planning For Your Retirement

01:50
Working with Michigan Media of Michigan Creative, Kohlitz drew and animated this linear animation for University of Michigan's HR Department. UofM has many employees and many have dutifully worked for the U for decades. Naturally, UofM wants them to be well-prepared for their retirement. That's why the HR Department contacted Michigan Creative to write the script for an engaging animation that not only explains how to plan for their retirement, but keeps the audience watching all the way to the end. With the script in hand, Kohlitz suggested using a linear animation style that would draw the viewer through the process. After all, working towards retirement is a very linear course. Kohlitz storyboarded and created concept art for this idea which was then approved. Kohlitz then created the animation using the existing branding and colors the Michigan Creative team had already established for HR's retirement education initiative. Why the best people don't mean the best teams | Scott Page, University of Michigan

09:18
Learn how you can use data and science to make work better at https://g.co/rework If the problem is hard, the best team doesn’t consist of the best individual performers. It’s the cognitively diverse teams that yield better outcomes. Dr. Scott Page, professor of Complex Systems, Political Science, and Economics at the University of Michigan, explains why at re:Work 2016. Crowds are better at making predictions, group-authored papers get more citations, and diverse teams get more patents. But why do cognitively diverse teams do better than groups of the best individuals? Page explains how experiences, information, and knowledge shape how people approach problems. Downsize the Department of Health and Human Services

02:49
http://www.downsizinggovernment.org/health-and-human-services The Department of Health and Human Services runs the huge and fast-growing Medicare and Medicaid. These programs fuel rising health costs, distort markets, and are plagued by waste and fraud. The department also runs other costly subsidy programs, including Head Start, TANF, and LIHEAP. Growth in HHS spending is creating a federal fiscal crisis, and the 2010 health care law sadly makes the situation worse. The department spent around $908 billion in 2013, or about $7,500 for every U.S. household. It employs 70,000 workers.
