Sam Broom of Sprott Global Offers His 2019 Resource Sector Outlook

20:33
Sam Broom joined Sprott Global in early 2016 having spent his early career working as an engineering geologist in the consulting industry, both in his native New Zealand and in Australia. During his time in Australia, Sam became heavily involved in the mining industry and gained extensive experience across a wide range of industry sub-sectors. Also during this period, he gained a passion for both the natural resources industries and the markets that support them. His investment philosophy focuses on combining a sound understanding of industry and company-specific fundamentals with technical analysis to fine-tune the timing of investment decisions in order to maximize portfolio returns. Sam received his B.S. in Honors Geology from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. In this interview, Sam offers his take on how the mining sector performed in 2018 and provides his outlook for 2019. Sam discusses why the Aussie mid-cap producers outperformed their North American counterparts last year and whether they might do so again in 2019. He explains why he is very bullish on the industrial commodities and provides his commentary on the Newmont-Goldcorp merger. The Story of the Musselwhite Mine Rescue Team

01:55
At an annual competition, Mine Rescue teams from all over the Americas competed in an Underground Mine Rescue scenario. The teams worked on: search and rescue techniques, collapsed structures (techniques for holding up caved -in materials), use of a hydraulic cutter, rescue of trapped victims, first aid measures, and lift of patients to ground surface. Although they were competitors and spoke different languages, there was camaraderie between the teams as they were all there for one reason— to train in case of an emergency. This is the story of the Musselwhite Mine Rescue Team.

Gravity concentration has been historically the most important way of extracting the native metal using pans or washing tables. Amalgamation with mercury was used to enhance recovery, often by adding it directly to the riffle tables, and mercury is still widely used in small diggings across the world. However, froth flotation processes may also be used to concentrate the gold. In some cases, particularly when the gold is present in the ore as discrete coarse particles, a gravity concentrate can be directly smelted to form gold bars. In other cases, particularly when the gold is present in the ore as fine particles or is not sufficiently liberated from the host rock, the concentrates are treated with cyanide salts, a process known as cyanidation leaching, followed by recovery from the leach solution. Recovery from solution typically involves adsorption on activated carbon followed by solution concentration or stripping and or electrowinning. The technique using dissolution with alkaline cyanide has been highly developed over recent years. It is particularly appropriate for low grade gold and silver ore processing (e.g. less than 5 ppm gold) but its use is not restricted to such ores. There are many environmental hazards associated with this extraction method, largely due to the high toxicity of the cyanidepounds involved. A major example of this hazard was demonstrated in the Baia Mare cyanide spill, when a break in holding pond dam at a mine waste reprocessing facility near Baia Mare in northern Romania released approximately 100,000 cubic metres (3,500,000 cu ft) of waste water contaminated with heavy metal sludge and up to 120 long tons (122 t) of cyanide into the Tis

Gold Has "Room To Move" – Osisko CEO

04:59
Even if gold is unable to make new multi-year highs, the market is still in a good space and the mining sector has room to grow, said Sean Roosen, CEO of Osisko Gold Royalties. “I think the gold market at $1,330-$1,350 is a pretty good price to set the stage for new projects to come online,” Roosen told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Gold Stock Analyst Investor Day Conference. While gold has struggle to make gains against the U.S. dollar, Roosen noted that his company’s portfolio is weighted heavily in Canadian dollar terms, which is holding up well. With gold trading at $1,690 an ounce against the Canadian dollar, the market is only 10% off its all-time highs at C$1,886 an ounce.Roosen said that he doesn’t make investment decisions based on future price forecasts for gold, but rather, makes the assumption that they will be operating in a $1,150- $1,350 an ounce environment. _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. Nexus Minerals will be busy in 2019 with two-pronged approach for Wallbrook project

07:13
Nexus Minerals Ltd (ASX:NXM) managing director Andy Tudor speaks to Proactive Investors about the Eastern Goldfields-focused explorer's newly enlarged Wallbrook Gold Project. Nexus recently acquired three neighbouring tenements from Newmont Mining Corp’s (NYSE:NEM) Newmont Exploration, increasing the total scale of Wallbrook to 250 square kilometres. Tudor explains that a myriad of current and upcoming exploration works are focused on two main targets: shallow, lower-grade bulk-tonnage mineralisation that represents 'low hanging fruit'; and deeper potential 3-5 million ounce discoveries. Overall, he draws comparisons with Saracen Mineral Holdings' Karari deposit, which is located 30 kilometres to the South.

38:07
Dave Kranzler of Investment Research Dynamics returns to the program to discuss the recent rise in gold seen this past week and whether it signals a bottom in gold. Dave also shares his perspective on the junior gold mining sector and where he sees great investment opportunities now. Dave holds an MBA from the University of Chicago with a concentration in accounting and finance. Over the years he has worked in various analytic and trading jobs on Wall Street. For nine years of those years he traded junk bonds for a large bank. For the past 16 years, Dave has been an avid student of the precious metals markets and steadfast proponent of holding physical gold and silver in one’s portfolio. Currently, he co-manages a precious metals and mining stock investment fund in Denver. Dave’s stated goal is to help people understand and analyze what is really going on in our financial system and economy. 0:05 Introduction 1:31 Commentary on gold and the recent COT report 8:22 Was this week’s rise in the gold price a combination of short covering and a flight to safety? 11:41 Is the price action in silver due primarily to industrial demand? 13:54 Commentary on current gold investor sentiment 16:39 Feedback Dave has received over last 6 months from mining stock investors 20:51 Dave comments on the extreme value opportunity in some junior mining stocks 26:53 Commentary regarding EMX Royalty 31:09 Is there a bellwether junior miner that indicates the director the sector is heading? 33:29 Concluding advice Sign up for our free newsletter and receive interview transcripts, stock profiles and investment ideas: http://eepurl.com/cHxJ39 The content found on MiningStockEducation.com is for informational purposes only and is not to be considered personal legal or investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell securities or any other product. Wide of protesters outside General Confederation of Workers of Peru 11. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Pedro Cruz, Miner on strike: "We are the workers who are paid the worst and we are hired through outside companies. More than eighty-five thousand workers are hired through these outside companies, which is not the same as working for the corporation. It isn't the same because we earn a third of what the workers hired directly by the company earn, and we are all doing the same job." 12. Pan of miners' news conference 13. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Luis Castillo, National Federation of Mining, Metallurgy and Steel Workers Secretary General: "The company has violated the law. They have violated the rights of the workers but the government does not say anything. They are simply talking, if the workers stop protesting and marching, who wins?" FILE: Cajamarca, Peru - April 2006 14. Various of Yanacocha mine STORYLINE: Thousands of Peruvian miners began a nationwide strike on Monday, demanding higher wages and more benefits, the country's largest mining union said. The government played down the strike as several of the country's most important mines - including Latin America's largest gold mine - continued to operate normally. Labour Minister Susana Pinilla called the strike a "failure," and told CPN Radio that "the principal mining centres don't have a single worker on strike" as several dozen miners protested outside the General Confederation of Workers asking for a solution to their demands. Many of the workers on strike are hired through external cooperatives which contract them to work for the mining corporations. The nearly eighty-five thousand miners working for the cooperatives claim they are receiving lower wages and benefits than their colleagues hired directly by the corporation. "It isn't the same because we earn a third of what the workers hired directly by the company earn, and we are all doing the same job," worker Pedro Cruz said. The National Federation of Mining, Metallurgy and Steel Workers, which represents some 22,000 miners, said the strike was indefinite. Luis Castillo, the union's secretary general, said workers will march through the capital, Lima, on Wednesday, after the May 1 Labour Day holiday. "The company has violated the law. They have violated the rights of the workers but the government does not say anything. They are simply talking, if the workers stop protesting and marching, who wins?" Castillo said. Workers walked off the job after talks between miners and the government collapsed on Sunday. The workers are also demanding increased profit sharing and the unionisation of subcontracted workers. A spokesman for Minera Yanacocha said that its workers have not joined the strike and that they were operating normally. The company is Latin America's largest gold producer and majority owned by Denver-based Newmont Mining Corp. But Guillermo Nina, a spokesman for Yanacocha's miners said they will analyse whether they will join the protest later this week. Peru is the world's largest silver producer, and the fifth-largest gold producer. Ned Schmidt - Barrick's Big Acquisition #4047

29:00
By now word is out that Barrick Gold is purchasing Randgold in a transaction valued at $18 billion. Could this be the start of the mining stocks M&A rush? Perhaps, but it certainly sends out a big message to both acquirers and acquirees. Heaven knows it's a target rich environment. China seems to be having issues with it's attempt to levy tariffs on US soy beans. Seems like there's just not enough other production available to replace the US. And then there's a horrible swine flu that's hit all the world except the US. Can you spell leverage?  For more go to FSN!

Gold Could Surge To $8,000/oz On NIRP – Pierre Lassonde

06:05
Gold Could Surge To $8,000/oz On NIRP – Pierre Lassonde During strong gold bull markets, the price of gold often hits a one-to-one ratio with the Dow Jones industrial average, says the chairman of Franco-Nevada Mining and former president of Newmont Mining. That means gold could surge to US$8,000 an ounce or even higher, he says. “In 1980 gold was at US$800 and the Dow was at 800; in 1934 gold was US$36 and the Dow was at 37 – where is the Dow today? Do I know it’s going to go back to 1:1 – I don’t know… even if it gets to 2:1, that’s US$8,000 –.

Largest gold companies

09:28
There are different methods by which gold mining companies are ranked. One is by their annual production. Another is by their cash cost per ounce, that is, how much money it costs them to mine the gold. Since gold prices are the same everywhere, companies with lower costs per ounce make more profit. The most common method lists by market capitalization which considers the total value of capital holdings by that company. Also considered when comparing companies is their market capitalization per ounce of gold equivalent which takes the market value and total reserves and resources for each company as well as the price of gold into consideration. The figures for each company can be used to determine the value the stock market gives to each company's reserves on an ounce to ounce basis. If the calculation is to exclude financial assets the enterprise value is used instead of market capitalization. EVO = Enterprise Value/Ounce = Enterprise Value divided by resources. The enterprise value is the difference between a company's market capitalization and its cash, investments less debt. Three of the 10 largest companies by market cap that engage in gold mining, Fresnillo, Buenaventura and Freeport-McMoran are not included in the first list because they are minor gold producers/most of their revenue comes from a metal other than gold but gold accounted for only 8% of revenue. This video is targeted to blind users. Attribution: Article text available under CC-BY-SA Creative Commons image source in video
