Grub Rescue : Repair, Restore Ubuntu | Kali Linux Grub Bootloader using Live CD
Blog Tutorial: http://www.hackanons.com/2018/02/grub-rescue-repair-restore-ubuntu-kali.html Seeing nothing but the grub rescue prompt? Did Windows mess up your Master Boot Record? Using Ubuntu, GRUB 2 got you down? Who needs Live CDs? This video tutorial will show you how you can use an Ubuntu Live USB drive to reinstall GRUB, even when your boot device is inaccessible. GRUB bootloader gets overrided if you install Windows after Ubuntu. I make this video tutorial on how to restore and customize the GRUB loader. Common Problem: You install Windows after you install Ubuntu. That erases the GRUB loader, and instead of being able to switch between Ubuntu and Windows, Windows will boot automatically. Steps: 1) Create a bootable USB Flash Drive of Ubuntu | Kali Linux - Download Ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop - Download and win32 DiskImager https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ - Create bootable USB flash drive of Ubuntu | Kali Linux Now select Live CD, Open Terminal & type the following commands : sudo mount /dev/sdaX /mnt {replace X with your drive number on which Ubuntu | Kali Installed} Now bind the directories that grub needs access to to detect other operating systems, like so. sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev && sudo mount --bind /dev/pts /mnt/dev/pts && sudo mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc && sudo mount --bind /sys /mnt/sys Now we jump into that using chroot. sudo chroot /mnt Now install, check, and update grub. This time you only need to add the drive letter (usually a) to replace X, for example: grub-install /dev/sda, grub-install –recheck /dev/sda. grub-install /dev/sdX grub-install --recheck /dev/sdX update-grub Now grub is back, all that is left is to exit the chrooted system and unmount everything. exit && sudo umount /mnt/sys && sudo umount /mnt/proc && sudo umount /mnt/dev/pts && sudo umount /mnt/dev && sudo umount /mnt Shut down and turn your computer back on, and you will be met with the default Grub2 screen. You may want to update grub or re-install burg however you like it. Congratulations, you have just Repaired/Restored/Reinstalled Grub 2 with a Ubuntu Live CD! Which background music did I use? Installing Linux & Windows in Dual Boot: CORRECT PARTITION SCHEME & BOOT LOADER SETUP
In this video, I will cover two important steps of Installing Linux alongside your windows OS. 1) Choosing the correct Partition scheme 2) Setting up your Windows Boot loader to boot to Linux instead of Linux bootloader (e.g : GRUB) During a standard Linux installation, a user do not have to worry about this. But when you are trying to install Linux in separate partition, keeping your current OS, it gets little trickier. If you do not configure these two options correctly, you might end up corrupting your bootloader or previous OS installation. I will also show how you can add your Linux os option to the Windows 8 bootloader using BCDedit. This is important so that in case in future if you decide to get rid of Linux OS, your computer boots normally without any issues.

Для этого входим в систему UEFI (удерживая клавишу F2 при загрузке, либо воспользовавшись специальной опцией из меню отладки Windows), перейти в меню "Security" и выбрать пункт "Select an UEFI file as trusted for executing".

How to Dual Boot Windows 8 and CentOS 7
I haven't made a video in a while. Here's how to dual boot Windows 8 and CentOS 7. CentOS: https://www.centos.org/download/ Download CentOS-7.0-livecd.iso from: https://www.centos.org/download/ Universal USB Installer: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ Use Universal USB Installer to install CentOS 7.0 onto a USB Flash Drive. Right click on This PC and click Manage. Create a partition by shrinking the main drive's volume. Use the partition for a new drive. Restart. Use F12 to go into Boot Options. Select USB Storage Device and proceed. Under manual partitioning, click on the minus to free the partition you just created. Now click on the + and add the following partitions: /home - 9000 MB /swap - 2000 MB / - everything else (For me, 143.6 GB) For each of these partitions, make sure they are of type Standard and have file format: ext4 Now, install CentOS 7, and reboot into CentOS. Once booted, open up a terminal. Type: sudo vim /boot/grub2/grub.cfg OR sudo gedit /boot/grub2/grub.cfg (gedit is more like notepad if you're unfamiliar with vim) Vim is a text editor. You can also use gedit, vim commands: i is to insert text esc is to exit insert mode :q is to quit vim :x is to quit and save vim Add the following to grub.cfg to create a menu entry for Windows 8: menuentry "Windows 8" { set root='(hd0, 2)' chainloader +1 } Click on the drive from the file explorer to find out what sda number the storage of Windows is on. For me, since Windows 8 was on sda3, I knew that the boot drive for Windows was on 2 (the number above). Reboot and you have a Windows 8 entry. Dual UEFI with 3D BIOS on GIGABYTE 7 Series Motherboards
With two physical BIOS ROMs onboard (main BIOS and backup BIOS), GIGABYTE takes its proprietary Dual BIOS technology to the next level with a new version of 3D BIOS boasting 2 different modes of interaction: 3D Mode and Advanced Mode. 3D Mode is an easy to use BIOS environment featuring a 3D image of the motherboard where the user can simply select the area of the board that they want to manipulate. For example, selecting the SATA ports will bring up a number of storage options including the boot priority selector that allows you to boot from a USB flash drive. Advanced mode has all the overclocking and tweaking options that power users look for, and works equally well using a keyboard or mouse to navigate through its many pages.

Create A Dual Boot Mode USB (Legacy And UEFI) For Windows 7/8.1/10 (UEFI Ready ISO)
This is the only tutorial from BigReds that works, boots and installs any WIN 7, 8.1, 10 or AIO (All in one) OS.iso with UEFI support in Legacy and UEFI mode on one USB (NTFS - Active/FAT32 - Hiden partition) if your Motherboard has UEFI/EFI BIOS support. In NTFS format one file is allowed to be bigger than 4 GB and this tutorial is superb if install.wim is bigger, where FAT32 limit is 4 GB max. Note that the OS.iso will also need to support UEFI otherwise this won’t work! Also, if you are installing the OS in UEFI mode you will need to format the hard drive you are installing to into GPT if you use MBR you can only install the OS in legacy mode. Also, note if you are using 32 bit UEFI OS.iso it will only boot into UEFI mode if your motherboard has an 32 bit UEFI BIOS and those motherboards are rare. If your AIO OS.iso has 32 bit and 64 bit entries of windows editions instead of making a source folder only on the hidden FAT32 partition like on the video, you need to create an x64 and x86 folder and in both folders, you need to create a folder called sources and in each of those sources folders you need to copy the 32 bit or 64 bit boot.wim file from the OS.iso! So x86\sources needs the 32 bit boot.wim and the x64 needs the 64 bit boot.wim copied inside. If you don’t do it correct then the entries in the windows installation will not be correct for UEFI boot mode. To test this after completing the process you need to go into the BIOS settings and chose either: - Boot in Legacy and UEFI - Boot in Legacy first or UEFI first When you do that, you can choose Legacy or UEFI in the boot options menu like on my video. Also, make sure you have enough space on the primary and the hidden partition on the USB drive while doing this. Bootice: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/bootice.html
