SOUNDBITE: (Russian) Alexei Gerasyuk, MICEX Spokesman: "It's not very worthwhile making predictions at the present time. Everything depends on the situation in foreign markets, most of all the USA and Europe, as well as the Russian economy. And much also depends on the dollar/euro exchange rate." 12. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) Irina, schoolteacher (no surname given): "We are still waiting for the government to pay off the money they stole from us, so we can buy currency." 17. Set up shot of Oleg Zamulin, Professor of New School of Economics 18. SOUNDBITE: (English) Oleg Zamulin, Professor of New School of Economics: "That process (the gradual devaluation of the ruble) has hurt the Russian economy, because the banks which expect further devaluation stop giving out loans to the economy and instead convert all of their money into dollars and expect these dollars to become more valuable in ruble terms, so until this process is over, until the devaluation is finished the banks won't go back to their natural business of giving out loans." 21. Wide of queue at bank 22. Various of people in line STORYLINE: Traders and shoppers at Moscow's Dorogomilovo market are feeling the pinch of the financial crisis. With Russia's rouble falling to a new low against the US dollar and euro, trade at the market was slow in on Friday morning. Both imported goods and local produce are getting expensive. The ruble dropped 0.4 roubles against the US dollar, to 32.6 - its lowest in the history of MICEX trade. For the first time ever, the ruble fell to 43 against the euro as the Central Bank continued a policy of controlled devaluation. The ruble has been badly bruised by declining energy prices and growing economic difficulties. It has shed more than 27 percent of its value against the US dollar since its high of 23.4 in early August. Resentment is growing on the streets of Moscow as the reality of the economic crisis hits the average Russian, some of whom are still bitter about the last crisis in the 90's. Eager to avoid losing public support, Russia's government has spent tens of (m) millions of US dollars to slow the fall of the ruble, which has ordinary Russians worried after years of economic expansion. Russia's international reserves dropped 11 percent this year, to 427 (b) billion US dollars, and down 29 (b) billion US dollars in December, the Central Bank said earlier this week. Analysts say the ruble is hurt by expectations that the price of oil - which fuels the Russian economy - will continue to fall. Until then, says Oleg Zamulin from the New School of Economics, banks will refrain from giving out loans. The Central Bank apparently wants to gradually let the ruble fall to a low beneath which it will not drop under any circumstances, economists said. Observers expect the string of near-daily devaluations to stop soon, probably within a month but possibly much You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/15f7f3e862a02c9101356d8cb8c9df47 Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork

I am in Omsk. In this video, you can see how to get a tourist sim in Russia. Also, you will come to know how to get Russian Ruble. Instead of using a money exchanger I used an ATM which had its services available in English. Surprisingly, I got an excellent exchange rate by using the ATM. I have shared the ATM's receipt and the SMS I got from my Indian bank in the video. I don't know this happened because of the Indian bank or it was a special feature of the Russian bank which owns the ATM. I can recommend this bank's ATM to every traveller as it gives a better exchange rate. In this video, there is a query about a free offer provided by the mobile operator. Russian/Nat Russia's leading foreign currency exchange began trading the euro on Tuesday with the ruble ending slightly lower than the central bank's rate for the previous day. While Russia's commercial sector claim they will embrace the advent of the euro, financial analysts predict that the Russian economy will stay essentially dollar-controlled. The new European currency the Euro was introduced today in Russia. Moscow's currency exchange opened trading on the new currency a few weeks after the Euro's debut on the world market. Moscow's General Director of Currency Exchange Alexander Zakharov said the response to the opening of trade was very rapid. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "Within 9 seconds to be exact we already made our first trade in the Euro. It was a joint trade between Sberbank and the International Moscow Bank." SUPER CAPTION: Alexander Zakharov, General Director of Moscow Currency Exchange Although prospects for the euro look initially healthy it's not thought that the currency will overtake the U-S dollar which has long been dominant in Russia. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "All of our international sales and payments are kept in dollars so of course the dollar in the near future will continue to play a leading role in currency in the Russian financial system." SUPER CAPTION: Alexander Zakharov, General Director of Moscow Currency Exchange The delay was caused mainly by a wait for approval to trade the new currency from Russia's Central Bank. The Euro opened today at approximately 26 rubles -- comparable to the dollar which is currently at nearly 23 rubles. Besides the majority of large business transactions, most Russians keep their savings in dollars, immediately converting each ruble paycheck into dollars. At exchange houses in Moscow today, Muscovites expressed doubt that the Euro would carry much weight in Russia's dollar-oriented economy. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "I would like the ruble itself to be on a normal level, like the Euro and the Euro itself of course is not going to have much use for the regular people." SUPER CAPTION: Vladimir Vladimirov, Muscovite SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "The Euro still has lots of time before it's even to be used seriously in Europe -- at least a few years. For us here in Russia the Euro is not even likely to be seen by most. For now I consider the dollar the most stable and reliable currency -- I keep all of my money in dollars, and not at the bank mind you but at home." SUPERCAPTION: Natalya Petrovna, Muscovite The Euro rate was initially set not far from today's price of 26, however Euro trading in Russia is expected to be slow as the economy runs mostly on the U-S dollar. It has citizens, companies and its own Central Bank. And as the previous ten years have shown all Russians are natural economists and currency dealers, so they will gradually start exchanging their cash now kept under pillows, especially those who plan to travel to Europe for business or pleasure. But this applies only to those who have savings." 20. Cutaway of cameras STORYLINE: The euro made its debut in Moscow on Thursday, but only a few banks have so far been authorised to exchange rubles for Europe's new currency. Not that many Russians appear keen. Most bank customers were exchanging dollars, in which they keep cash savings, for rubles. But public interest - or need - for the euro is expected to grow as people start planning for trips to Europe. The 12 countries that have switched to the new currency are Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. National currencies will circulate side by side with the euro for up to two months to help ease the transition, but European Central Bank officials are hoping that most people will use only euros after the first two weeks. Denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom are the only European Union members to keep their own currencies. In 2014, the Russian government stopped supporting the exchange rate of ruble against other currencies. As a result, ruble plummeted against both USD and Euro by more than 100%. However, wages and prices for many services in Russia have remained the same. Therefore, in many cases, your money can buy twice as much as it could back in 2014. This is good news not only for those traveling to Russia for leisure. It also makes creating businesses that export products or services from Russia very lucrative. The main idea is benefiting from low labor costs. Producing almost anything in Russia at these affordable rates and exporting it to Europe or the United States can help you cut costs by as much as 50%. Tap opportunities for a higher margin today!

On Friday, the ruble’s exchange rate is declining against the US dollar and the euro on the back of crude prices falling to 46 dollars a barrel. The tumble in the Russian currency to two-week lows against the greenback is also linked to the Kremlin’s discontent over the ruble’s strength in the summer period. At 7:50 GMT, the dollar-ruble pair was trading at 64.7 levels. Against the single European currency, the ruble was trading above 71.3 levels. According to analysts, the ruble’s fall could be slowed down by higher sell-offs among exporters paying taxes and dividends. On Friday, crude futures keep on declining after yesterday’s losing session. The data released in the US on Thursday indicated an ongoing oil glut in the market. Trading sentiment, which previously favored the ruble’s highs in July, has changed. During early trading, the Brent crude price dropped to 46.07 dollars a barrel. The Brent price is expected to sink by 3 percent over the current week. Oil quotes are supported by the US dollar’s weakness against the major currency basket. This makes dollar-denominated crude prices attractive for holders of other currencies. External factors are weighing down on the Russian financial market. Global central banks do not hurry to reconsider their monetary stance, disappointing investors. https://www.instaforex.com

The US dollar and, surprisingly, the Russian ruble are in high demand in the currency market. The New Year holiday is coming in Russia and many other countries. Traders are preparing for the new year of 2017 going on holidays. The Russian currency leads in the dollar-ruble pair. In Moscow, the ruble opened with a rise against the US dollar and the pair dropped to 60.21 from 60.60. Currency strategists expect the dollar-ruble pair to hit 60.10 levels. Moscow Exchange will not close on the New Year holidays, so the ruble would keep resisting the greenback. The Russian currency usually follows the crude price dynamics. Oil prices are rising on Thursday despite the report prepared by the American Petroleum Institute that showed a rise in crude stockpiles. Today, the US Energy Department will release the official crude inventories data. However, lately the market has been ignoring the statistics. Currently investors hone in on actions of OPEC and Russia on production curb. However, the ruble is supported not only by rising black gold, but also by Russia’s upbeat data. According to Markit, manufacturing business activity growth in Russia accelerated to a record level. The manufacturing PMI edged up to the 5-year high of 53.7 in December from 53.6 in November. Analysts had projected a drop in the indicator to 52. Experts say that a better economic situation in Russia is linked to an increase in production and new orders. However, the new job count is still at lows. Analysts point out that is characteristic of the start of economic upturn. As for the Russian ruble, the currency strategists consider the end of 2016 the best end for the ruble. https://www.instaforex.com/

The Russian ruble continued to plunge against the US dollar for a second day, Thursday. Muscovites talked about their concerns as the currency continues to reach new record lows, falling to 82 against the dollar and 91 against the euro. SOT, Ekaterina, Moscow citizen (Russian): "I have no savings so this does not affect me, it's sad because traveling [abroad] is more complicated now. Surely, it does not make me happier." SOT, Pavel, Moscow citizen (Russian): "It's difficult for me and many others because of the decrease in the value of real estate and higher food and other household expenses impact real consumption." SOT, Sergey Lucashevich, Moscow citizen (Russian): "For sure, it is influential. I planned my holidays, I cannot say that I am used to go to Europe, but I like to go there and I go there to relax and first of all for medical treatment to Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, but since last year [when rouble fell rapidly] I had to cancel this idea and this opportunity." The ruble is subdivided into 100 kopeks (sometimes written as kopecks or copecks; Russian: копе́йка kopeyka, plural: копе́йки kopeyki). The ruble was the currency of the Russian Empire and of the Soviet Union (as the Soviet ruble). However, today only Russia, Belarus and Transnistria use currencies with the same name. The ruble was the world's first decimal currency: it was decimalised in 1704 when the ruble became equal to 100 kopeks. In 1992 the Soviet ruble (code: SUR) was replaced with the Russian ruble (code: RUR) at the rate 1 SUR = 1 RUR. In 1998 preceding the financial crisis, the Russian ruble was redenominated with the new code "RUB" and was exchanged at the rate of 1 RUB = 1,000 RUR. The ruble is the oldest national currency after the Pound sterling, and the world's first decimal currency. The ruble has been used in the Russian territories since the 13th century. The modern Russian ruble was created in December 1991 and used in parallel with the Soviet ruble, which remained in circulation until September 1993. All Soviet coins issued in 1961–1991, respectively, as well as 1-, 2- and 3-kopek coins, issued before 1961, formally remained legal tender until 31 December 1998, and in 1999–2001 they were exchanged for Russian rubles at the ratio of 1000:1

Last Friday brought an enormous change to the global market. Out of all financial exchange floors, the currency market in particular was affected the most by the outcome of the UK’s referendum. Since the past week, the Russian ruble has been trading on a stronger footing against its key counterpart, the US dollar. Apart from investors’ shock as a result of the Leave vote, the Russian currency is also supported by other crucial factors. A. Davydov comments, The end-of-month tax payments and Turkey’s official apologies, delivered yesterday, for downing of a Russian air force jet last year, along with a renewed rise in crude oil prices are supporting the ruble. However, the potential for the ruble’s growth is limited as the tax factor is running out of steam, whereas the normalization of Russia-Turkey relations is still in question. Therefore, the dollar-ruble pair is expected to stabilize around 64.50 rubles per dollar. End of comments Crude oil prices, the main driver of the Russian ruble, are climbing as market participants are keeping an eye on the results of the European Parliament’s emergency post-Brexit meeting. Moreover, oil is on the rise amid the looming threat of union strikes by Norwegian petroleum workers, which may potentially limit the output of Europe’s major producer. Workers on seven oil and gas fields could call a strike demanding a new wage deal. The North Sea crude oil benchmark is trading around 48.20 dollars a barrel on Tuesday. WTI also edged higher, reaching 47.43 dollars a barrel. Traders are now looking ahead to fresh crude stockpiles data from the American Petroleum Institute slated for release later in the day. The market is currently seeing a recovery in commodities-linked and emerging-market currencies. High-yield currencies are likely to get a boost from central banks’ soft monetary policy stance and the Fed’s plans to delay an interest rate hike in the near term. The Bank of Russia does not foresee any negative consequences of Brexit for Russia. However, the bank’s governor Elvira Nabiullina said that everything would depend on the precise terms of the UK’s departure from the European Union. https://www.instaforex.com

Ukraine Looming Bankruptcy and Russian Ruble Plunging MOSCOW, March 3 (Reuters) - Russian stocks and bonds fell sharply and the central bank hiked interest rates and burned through $10 billion of its reserves on Monday to prop up the rouble as markets took fright at the escalating tensions with neighboring Ukraine. Investors were ditching all Russian assets alike - the rouble, stocks and bonds. The Ukrainian hryvnia has firmed since curbs were imposed on deposit withdrawals last week, but Ukrainian eurobonds fell sharply. Russia's central bank unexpectedly raised its key lending rate - the one-week repurchasing agreement - to 7 percent from 5.5 percent, in an attempt to stem capital flight. The central bank did not mention Ukraine in its statement, but said the decision to raise rates was aimed at preventing "risks to inflation and financial stability associated with the recently increased level of volatility in the financial markets". Traders estimated that the central bank spent $10 billion, or 2 percent, of its gold and foreign exchange reserves keeping the rouble from spiraling down too fast. "It goes without saying that the extent to which (central bank moves are) successful will depend largely on political rather than economic developments," Neil Shearing, chief emerging markets economist at Capital Economics, said. The rouble was down 2 percent to 36.49 against the dollar and it was also down 1.5 percent to 50.30 against the euro, trading at all-time lows. The rouble-denominated MICEX index of Russian shares tumbled 10.3 percent to 1,295.4 points and the dollar-denominated RTS collapsed 11.8 percent to 1,118.2 points. "There's a sell-off of everything right now," said Artem Argetkin, a trader at BCS in Moscow, said. Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Klepach told Reuters on Monday that he expects "hysteria" on the markets to subside, but it was uncertain when that would happen. "What lies ahead of us is a period of more confrontation and difficulties. For us, that will mean more complicated relations with the European Union, the (United) States, with all the resulting consequences." Ukraine called up military reserves on Sunday and Washington threatened to isolate Russia economically after President Vladimir Putin declared he had the right to invade his neighbour in Moscow's biggest confrontation with the West since the Cold War. The West has been talking about sanctions, but some investors and economists reckon that such things as limiting trade with Russia, are still a far way off. Europe remains hugely depend on Russia's energy, importing a third of its gas from Russia. And while the trade between the United States and Russia is limited, some U.S. companies, such as ExxonMobil and Boeing, have a huge presence of in Russia. "Is Russia going to be cut off from the world? That is very unlikely given what Russia provides to the world, which are oil, gas, raw materials," Alexis Rodzianko, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, said. "Sanctions are less than absolutely likely because sanctions hurt both sides maybe even the side applying the sanctions more than the side being sanctioned." Still, market players, fearing broader consequences, were selling stocks, including major blue chips. Gazprom lost more than 10 percent, while shares in state banks Sberbank and VTB both fell 13 percent. "The Russian market has always been dependent on foreign investors," said Andrei Kuznetsov, strategist at Sberbank CIB in Moscow. He estimates about 70 percent of Russian freely traded shares is controlled by foreigners and a big portion of foreigners - about 40 percent - is from the United States. Konstantin Gulyaev, chief market analyst at Capital investment house in Moscow, said Monday's market behaviour was pure panic. "The most important for our market is that the 'Ukraine factor' does not acquire some global factor, as it was in 2008 when after the military conflict in Georgia, was the crash of the Lehman Brothers," Gulyaev said. The impact of the central bank's rate rise on the rouble currency, which had lost nearly 8 percent against the dollar already before Putin's declaration, remains doubtful. Traders said the central bank has been offering $1 billion to prop up the rouble every time the currency falls two-three kopecks.

Russian currency has suffered further gyrations. After falling more than three percent against both the dollar and the euro on Friday morning the rouble did bounce back somewhat in the afternoon. That followed signs Russia's central bank was planning emergency action to stabilise the rouble. "This is full-blown panic, with signs of a self-fulfilling currency crisis," Dmitry Polevoy, chief Russia economist at ING Bank in Moscow, said in a note. "At such times, the central bank should interven… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2014/11/07/crisis-roller-coaster-ride-for-the-russian-rouble euronews business brings you latest updates from the world of finance and economy, in-depth analysis, interviews, infographics and more Subscribe for daily dose of business news: http://bit.ly/1pcHCzj Made by euronews, the most watched news channel in Europe.
