It develops when cells called melanocytes are killed by the body’s immune system, causing the area of skin to turn white because the cells no longer make pigment. - Any sudden rashes on your skin show that there is something wrong with your body. It could be an allergy to food, home chemicals, medical drugs, or even a contagious disease, such as chicken pox. In any case, it is better to turn to a doctor because allergic reactions can lead to serious consequences. One of them is a Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which is a severe skin reaction. - If you have edemas every day, it is worth seeing an endocrinologist because they can be a sign of hypothyroidism. This condition can occur when the thyroid gland fails to produce sufficient quantities of hormones. The following symptoms can accompany this disease: dry skin, face and limb edemas, hair loss, fragile nails, and weight gain. - There are many reasons why moles can appear on the skin. A basic and most common one is heredity. If your parents have big birthmarks, you may also have them. Other reasons can be either excessive ultraviolet exposure or hormone imbalance. In most cases, moles are harmless.  - Pretty much everyone suffered from acne at one point or another. And don't get me started on blackheads, this thing is unavoidable. Today numerous commercials and cosmetic brands show us an unbelievable amount of products that claim to clear your skin from acne and blackheads completely. And people usually trust them buying more and more, without realizing that clogged pores are just the consequence and not the main reason. Of course, it's easier just to wash your face and hope it will all go away instead of going on a strict diet and figure out the main root of your skin problems, but if you want to have a fresh and free-from-acne skin, visiting the doctor is inevitable. - In most cases, flaking is not that big of a deal. It is a temporary condition with an easy treatment. However, when the flaking is intense and accompanied by other symptoms, it can be a sign of a serious disease. The reasons for flaking can be a vitamin deficiency, hormone imbalance or allergic reaction. - If you are inside a well-ventilated space with optimal temperature and you are not nervous, then you shouldn’t be sweating as if running a cross-country race. If you find yourself in such situation constantly, it's time to sound the alarm. The reason for excessive sweating can be the toxic diffuse goiter, or Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. All of us are quite busy and can be a bit scared to go to the doctor with some problems, thinking that maybe they will just go away as suddenly as they appeared. Sometimes this happens, but other times your condition may silently progress. Don't put off visiting a doctor, if you are feeling a certain serious discomfort. If it's nothing much, then great! But if there's something wrong, it's better to find it in the early stages, when it's way easier to treat it. The electromagnetic (EM) spectrum is just a name that scientists give a bunch of types of radiation when they want to talk about them as a group. Radiation is energy that travels and spreads out as it goes-- visible light that comes from a lamp in your house and radio waves that come from a radio station are two types of electromagnetic radiation. Other examples of EM radiation are microwaves, infrared and ultraviolet light, X-rays and gamma-rays. Hotter, more energetic objects and events create higher energy radiation than cool objects. Only extremely hot objects or particles moving at very high velocities can create high-energy radiation like X-rays and gamma-rays. The different types of radiation in the EM spectrum, in order from lowest energy to highest: Radio: Yes, this is the same kind of energy that radio stations emit into the air for your boom box to capture and turn into your favorite Mozart, Madonna, or Justin Timberlake tunes. But radio waves are also emitted by other things ... such as stars and gases in space. You may not be able to dance to what these objects emit, but you can use it to learn what they are made of. Infrared: Our skin emits infrared light, which is why we can be seen in the dark by someone using night vision goggles. In space, IR light maps the dust between stars. Visible: Yes, this is the part that our eyes see. Visible radiation is emitted by everything from fireflies to light bulbs to stars ... also by fast-moving particles hitting other particles. Ultraviolet: We know that the Sun is a source of ultraviolet (or UV) radiation, because it is the UV rays that cause our skin to burn! Stars and other "hot" objects in space emit UV radiation. X-rays: Your doctor uses them to look at your bones and your dentist to look at your teeth. Hot gases in the Universe also emit X-rays . Gamma-rays: Radioactive materials (some natural and others made by man in things like nuclear power plants) can emit gamma-rays. Big particle accelerators that scientists use to help them understand what matter is made of can sometimes generate gamma-rays. But the biggest gamma-ray generator of all is the Universe! They mean nothing, are there just for show and you just know that 99 percent of the time the person throwing it is going to look like a complete idiot. When signing up to take on this gig, you think that these people would practice heavily to avoid being featured on a funny sports bloopers compilation. Apparently not though as time after time celebrities, politicians, animals and freaking fictional characters (yup Darth Vader is on this list, didn’t see that one coming on a sports channel did ya?) make fools of themselves trying to pitch a baseball. The mistakes can often be repeated in these pitches. People like Michael Jordan, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg release their balls too early and that causes the ball to go careening off to the side of the plate like a swerving car. Other times people like Carly Rae Jepsen will release the ball too late so that it hits the dirt so fast you may not even see it. But the worst of the worst have to be the ones who just didn’t care. The ones who didn’t put one iota of thought into their throw and disrespecting the sacred tradition of baseball ceremonial first pitches. In electrodynamics the strength and direction of an electric field is defined by its electric field vector. In the case of a circularly polarized wave, as seen in the accompanying animation, the tip of the electric field vector, at a given point in space, describes a circle as time progresses. At any instant of time, the electric field vector of the wave describes a helix along the direction of propagation. A circularly polarized wave can be in one of two possible states, right circular polarization in which the electric field vector rotates in a right-hand sense with respect to the direction of propagation, and left circular polarization in which the vector rotates in a left-hand sense. Circular polarization is a limiting case of the more general condition of elliptical polarization. The other special case is the easier-to-understand linear polarization. The phenomenon of polarization arises as a consequence of the fact that light behaves as a two-dimensional transverse wave. In radio and electronics, an antenna (plural antennae or antennas), or aerial, is an electrical device which converts electric power into radio waves, and vice versa. It is usually used with a radio transmitter or radio receiver. In transmission, a radio transmitter supplies an electric current oscillating at radio frequency (i.e. a high frequency alternating current (AC)) to the antenna's terminals, and the antenna radiates the energy from the current as electromagnetic waves (radio waves). In reception, an antenna intercepts some of the power of an electromagnetic wave in order to produce a tiny voltage at its terminals, that is applied to a receiver to be amplified. Antennas are essential components of all equipment that uses radio. They are used in systems such as radio broadcasting, broadcast television, two-way radio, communications receivers, radar, cell phones, and satellite communications, as well as other devices such as garage door openers, wireless microphones, Bluetooth-enabled devices, wireless computer networks, baby monitors, and RFID tags on merchandise. Typically an antenna consists of an arrangement of metallic conductors (elements), electrically connected (often through a transmission line) to the receiver or transmitter. An oscillating current of electrons forced through the antenna by a transmitter will create an oscillating magnetic field around the antenna elements, while the charge of the electrons also creates an oscillating electric field along the elements. These time-varying fields radiate away from the antenna into space as a moving transverse electromagnetic field wave. Conversely, during reception, the oscillating electric and magnetic fields of an incoming radio wave exert force on the electrons in the antenna elements, causing them to move back and forth, creating oscillating currents in the antenna. Antennas can be designed to transmit and receive radio waves in all horizontal directions equally (omnidirectional antennas), or preferentially in a particular direction (directional or high gain antennas). In the latter case, an antenna may also include additional elements or surfaces with no electrical connection to the transmitter or receiver, such as parasitic elements, parabolic reflectors or horns, which serve to direct the radio waves into a beam or other desired radiation pattern. The first antennas were built in 1888 by German physicist Heinrich Hertz in his pioneering experiments to prove the existence of electromagnetic waves predicted by the theory of James Clerk Maxwell. Hertz placed dipole antennas at the focal point of parabolic reflectors for both transmitting and receiving. He published his work in Annalen der Physik und Chemie (vol. 36, 1889). Yagi antenna A commonly used directional antenna is the Yagi-Uda Array, usually just called a Yagi. It was invented by Shintaro Uda and his colleague, Hidetsugu Yagi, in 1926. A Yagi antenna uses several elements to form a directional array. A single driven element, typically a dipole, propagates RF energy; elements placed immediately in front of and behind the driven element re-radiate RF energy in phase and out of phase, enhancing and retarding the signal, respectively. The elements are called parasitic elements; the element behind the driven element is called the reflector, while the elements in front of the driven element are called directors. Yagi antennas have beamwidths in the range of 30 to 80 degrees and can provide well in excess of 10 dBi passive gain. In this video, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Technolgy has been explained. So, in this video, what is RFID, what is inside this RFID system, how RFID works, and application of RFID have been explained. What is RFID? RFID is technology which works on radio frequency and it is used for the auto-identification for the different object. The RFID system mainly consists of two parts. 1) RFID Reader or Interrogator 2) RFID Tags In this RFID system, this RFID reader continuously sends radio waves of a particular frequency. If the object, on which this RFID tag is attached is within the range of this radio waves then it sends the feedback back to this RFID reader. And based on this feedback, RFID reader identifies the object. RFID tags: Now, three different kinds of RFID tags are commercially available. 1) Passive tags 2) Active tags 3) Semi-passive tags These passive tags do not have any power supply. They used to get their power from the incoming radio waves from the Readers. While active tags have a power source for their internal circuitries. And for sending the response to the reader also, it uses its own power supply. In the case of semi-passive tags, they have a power supply for internal circuitries, but for sending the response it relies on the radio waves received from the Reader. Operating Frequency: This RFID system is mainly operated in three frequency bands. 1) LF: Low-Frequency band 2) HF: High-Frequency band 3) UHF: Ultra High-Frequency band The exact frequency of operation varies from country to country. Operating Principles: Most of the RFID systems operate on any of this two principles. 1) Load Modulation 2) Backscattered Modulations Applications of RFID: 1.
