English/Nat Emergency services are still searching through the rubble at the site of the I-R-A bomb attack in London's Docklands. All day Sunday, firefighters and police have been sifting through the wreckage in which the bodies of two men killed in the huge blast were found.. More than a hundred people were wounded in the explosion on Friday. Five are still in hospital with serious injuries. Two days after the blast the scene at South Quay in London's East End is still one of utter devastation. Office blocks stand shattered and debris litters the road. Insurance experts calculate the destruction could lead to a repair bill of more than 85 million pounds (128-million U-S dollars). But the physical cost pales in comparison to the human suffering caused by the bomb-- and its blow to hopes for peace in the Northern Ireland conflict. The bodies of the two dead men were discovered after an intensive search of the smashed buildings. Police have named the victims as 29-year-old Inan Ul-Haq Bashir and John Jeffries, who was 31. Both had been working in a newsagent's kiosk close to the scene of the explosion. The police say the bomb contained up to half a ton of homemade explosives, and is believed to have been packed into a van and left in a parking garage. Police were out in force in London's city centre Sunday, stopping vehicles for random security checks. As relative calm returns to Docklands the search for clues to the bombers continues. A bomb scare has sparked chaos in London’s Canary Wharf, with the Metropolitan Police’s bomb squad deployed to investigate ‘suspicious packages’ in the major business district. The incident, which has since proved to be a false alarm, occurred in the Harbour Exchange area of the Isle of Dogs, with local reports suggesting that a suspicious package had been identified by police. An area around Harbour Exchange Square, home to the UK Financial Services Ombudsman, was reportedly cordoned off while police descended on the packages. It was 25 years ago that an IRA bomb in the heart of the city killed one person and wounded dozens of others. Now some of the never seen before images of the destruction at Bishopsgate have been released - giving more of an insight into the extent of the damage. It was this attack in 1993 that changed security in the City. Alex Bushill reports.

Windows shattered and shards of debris flew through the air as the blast tore through office buildings and shops within a half-mile radius in Manchester city centre on June 15, 1996 (left). Minutes earlier two police officers are seen directing people away from the vehicle (inset), which was packed with 1.5kg of explosives, and a bomb squad called in. A robot approaches the lorry but efforts to diffuse the bomb prove in vain as time runs out (middle). Nobody was killed but 212 people were injured and £700million in damage caused (right) after the explosive device was detonated close to Marks & Spencer and the Arndale shopping centre. Two climate change activists climbed onto the roof of a train and another glued himself to the window at Canary Wharf's Docklands Light Railway station in London as part of a third day of action by "Extinction Rebellion" to pressure politicians to take more radical measures to protect the environment. A total of 290 people were arrested on Monday and Tuesday after the activists blocked some of the capital's most iconic locations, many camping in tents on London's streets. The City of London - Money and Power 1 of 2 - BBC Documentary , recorded 19.02.2011 Today I watched a Documentary on BBC. Title: The City of London: Money & Power Salient Features Narrated were: 1) London City is Run by and belongs to Bankers and Merchants. 2) It is separated from the Royal Territory by a Pillar with a dragon on it. 3) Even the Queen must ask permission to enter that territory. 4) The Royalty borrow Money for their Rule or Conquests from the Merchants. 5) It is a symbiotic relationship. Merchants need the Royalty to mesmerize the people and keep them hoping. 6) The City runs on Greed, Gambling and Competition. 7) Financial weapons of mass destruction are created, accepted and used. 8) You Come to the City to Live by the sword and die by the sword. 9) If you Lose, there is a door, you can Leave. 10) This is the way it has been for Centuries and will always be. I was perplexed by this Blatant Narration. This is the same pattern copied all over the world after 1945 and the British Colonial Rule. That is why there are many riots - People are rioting against a System they did not think will come into existence over time and by stealth. (From David Icke Webpage with thanks, see http://buyerbeaware.blogspot.com/2011/02/system-city-of-london.html )

Ten men and three women were seen glued to each other and the entrance to the London Stock Exchange this morning. Members of the group also managed to clamber on top of a DLR train at Canary Wharf, despite being removed for safety reasons last week. Yesterday climate change activists voluntarily offered to end their near two-week campaign, which has meant travel chaos, business losses and more than 1,000 arrests. But they said they plan for a full day of final demonstrations today and warned Londoners and politicians to 'expect more action very soon'. Four activists sat outside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's home in Islington, North London, said they were are 'all Jeremy Corbyn supporters' but want the Labour Party to go further than declaring a 'climate emergency'. Commuters and businesses are raging at the major disruption to at least 500,000 people as a boat continues to block Oxford Circus, activists dance on Waterloo Bridge and rows of tents cover key routes through the capital. Despite police shutting Transport for London's public wifi to stop activists co-ordinating protests underground, Extinction Rebellion protesters clambered on Docklands Light Railway carriages overground at Canary Wharf. Protesters boasted of keeping hold of their four strongholds of Parliament Square, Waterloo Bridge, Marble Arch and Oxford Circus where they have continued to gather all day. (26 Feb 2019) LEAD IN: As the UK's Prime Minister, Theresa May faces a potential revolt by Cabinet minsters over Britain's departure from the EU, London's financial sector is busy making final preparations and bracing itself for a messy exit. STORYLINE: The sky scrapers of London's financial districts belie a city in the midst of uncertainty. New buildings shooting up to the sky continue to be constructed even while the UK undergoes a seismic constitutional change in the form of Brexit. London is one of only a few global trade centres, along with New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong. It has been a leading hub for global business since the middle ages, dealing in financial services like foreign exchange, bond trading, banking and insurance. Based across two sites: the Square Mile (also known as The City) and Canary Wharf, London's financial sector employs around half a million people, according to the City of London and contributes around £47 billion to the UK's national income. So what will Brexit mean for London's business hub? Christian May is the editor of the daily business free sheet, City A.M. "The City has made so many plans and put those plans into place on the assumption that there's going to be a messy or complicated Brexit, they couldn't wait until a week before making those huge decisions. So, having done that, they're already turning to a life beyond Brexit. The outcome matters, the kind of relationship they will have with the European financial centres matters, but so too does the relationship the City has with the rest of the world, opportunities in emerging markets and new technologies. Those are the sorts of things that I think people in the City are thinking about now when they turn to the future but obviously the trading relationship they have with Europe is of significance, but most of the changes that people need to make to ensure that continuity has been made," he says. It is lunchtime at Canary Wharf - a part of London's financial district where Brexit is never far from anybody's mind. Among City workers, views on the matter are as varied as when the referendum took place 2016. "I think that Europe is holding us back. I think that the relationships are deteriorating. I think we've got greater opportunity outside the Eurozone at the moment. Principally the Far East and the U.S," says Graham Gower. "I think it will be an absolute disaster, I'm terrified. The single biggest fear I have is Brexit happening," says Victoria Sherston. "Some trepidation. I think it's not quite clear where we're going to end up but overall, I think we'll be OK," says a City worker called Chris. "I hope it's just an orderly and stable exit and delivers on the Referendum, but in a way that has a minimal impact on the economy," says Mark Rush. "I'm hoping that an agreement can be made and that it all kind of works out I don't know if I'm honestly feeling it's going to happen, but yeah..," says Cara Pepper. Whatever the future may hold for the UK post-Brexit, London will remain a world class capital city, the question is whether it retains its status as a top global financial services hub after the 29th March. A commuter has died after 'falling from the escalators' at Canary Wharf station in London. An air ambulance and police officers were rushed to the station in the capital's finance district at around 3pm. Horrified witnesses reported seeing 'blood everywhere' as paramedics desperately tried to save them. They were pronounced dead at the scene. A British Transport Police spokesman said: 'Officers were called to Canary Wharf London Underground station at 3pm today after reports of a person falling from the escalators. 'Colleagues from the London Ambulance Service also attended, however, a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 'Officers are working to inform their family. This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.' The station was closed for just over an hour but re-opened at 4.15pm. Police have not yet revealed the gender or age of the person while they work to identify them and inform their family - but some witnesses say the deceased was male. One witness reportedly heard a 'harrowing thud' behind him before checking the man's his wrist 'to see if he could feel a pulse' before realising he was dead. Another witness said: 'He was lying on the floor with his head towards the Tube doors, as if he had fallen backwards,' The Mirror reported. 'It looked like he might have had a serious fall.' One witnesses described seeing a body 'laying on the ground surrounded by police', and another said a person was 'covered in those silver emergency blankets with emergency services around them on eastbound Jubilee Line platform'. 'There are a lot of paramedics tending to a man at the end of the eastbound platform,' one person said, and another added that a colleague was 'in tears on this floor'. One woman described feeling ill after seeing 'all that blood at Canary Wharf'. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said they were called at 2.57pm today to reports of an incident at the station and dispatched an ambulance crew, paramedics and London's Air Ambulance to the incident. 'Sadly, despite the efforts of our medics, a person died at the scene,' they added. One online commenter said: 'This makes me feel ill each and every time I read of these incidents.' For confidential support in the UK call the Samaritans on 116 123.
