That's How You Can Confuse Your Math Teacher

09:13
Bright Side is going to teach you a mathematical trick which requires no special preparation. This trick will confuse your math teacher and impress your friends. You’re going to fall in love with math after this even if you haven't been a fan of it before. TIMESTAMPS The art of Math 0:58 The trick 2:13 The trick explained 5:46 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -Albert Einstein said that “Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas.” In Math, 2 plus 2 always equals 4. Or does it? -Be amazed as you see magic happening in front of you. You’ll see how a number picked at random turns into a number previously saved in a secret folder. -Pick any five-digit number. You take your secret five-digit number and lose the first digit, then add 2 to the last digit. Now ask one of your friends or even your teacher to give you any number. Next, your task is to name a number, which will give 9999 if you add it to the previous number. Then, again, it is your friends’ turn to pick the four digits. Once again, you name the next number. Remember it has to give us 9999 in the end. Now let us put all the numbers together. There you go – we’ve got the number it all started with. 10 Things Our Parents Lied to Us About

08:28
What are the most common parenting fails? We've collected all the myths our parents told us. You can now surprise your parents with all the new answers you’ve got, or choose to keep it to yourself. Parents are always the main source of information for a child. But they are not always the most reliable source. Bright Side decided to think back on all the myths our parents told us. TIMESTAMPS Your ears go red when you lie. 0:52 If you sit too close to the TV, you’ll hurt your eyes. 1:59 You’ll get sick if you stand near a working microwave. 2:59 You’ll get arthritis if you crack your knuckles. 3:45 You’ll get acne if you eat too much chocolate. 4:15 If you swallow chewing gum, it’ll stay inside you for 7 years. 4:48 If you touch a toad, you’ll get warts. 5:32 Your hair will grow faster if you have it cut more often. 6:11 If you get scared when making a face, it’ll stick that way. 6:42 If you play video games for too long, you’ll destroy your TV. 7:17 SUMMARY - Blood vessels in the ears regulate the temperature of the body, so if they are red, it means the body is overheated. - This is a very popular misconception. However, as this long-term extension study has shown, myopia in children doesn’t have anything to do with watching TV or sitting in front of the computer. - Modern microwave ovens are totally safe as long as they are fully functioning. - No connection has been made between arthritis and cracking knuckles. Bones don’t pop, but air bubbles do. - Acne is an inflammation of the skin, and chocolate doesn’t cause pimples to appear. There is research that says otherwise, but scientists think it’s controversial. - If you swallow chewing gum, it will be digested just like anything else. The only difference is that it’ll take a little more time. - The reasons why warts appear are reduced immunity and human papillomavirus (HPV). - Unfortunately, hair growth rate doesn’t depend on how often you have it cut. The average hair growth rate is 0.01 inches per day. - No connection has been found between getting scared and dysfunction of the facial nerve. - TVs break down over time, no matter how often you play video games. 17 Things You Should Stop Doing in Your Car

09:21
A lot of careless things are done by drivers on a daily basis while driving. The most common ones we know of are rash driving, dangerous passing, drinking and driving, and using cell phones while driving. But there are a number of other habits you better get rid of. For example, some people love singing along to the radio while driving their car. And this is one of the most dangerous things people can do! Many women often skip the important step of changing footwear when they drive to some event, all dressed up. But you can't even begin to imagine how many bad and even fatal accidents have happened because a high heel got stuck in the floorboard. So, here are some of the most reckless things you should never do while in the car. Keep them in mind while in a moving vehicle in order to avoid accidents on the road. Other videos you might like: If You See a Coin In Your Car Door Handle, Run And Call the Police! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WShss20bz4U& If You See Clothes On Your Car, Don't Touch It And Drive Away! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLuMcFqKHi4 7 Things You Shouldn't Do In an Automatic Transmission Car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNh_2BHVJo4 TIMESTAMPS: Headphones on 0:27 Munching on a snack 0:53 Feet on the dashboard 1:27 Reaching for stuff 2:09 Getting too comfortable 2:33 Putting on makeup 3:00 Paying attention to billboards 3:27 Not wearing a seat belt 3:54 Driving with anything but hands 4:22 Rubbernecking 4:49 Singing aloud 5:13 Playing with pets 5:56 Texting or calling 6:28 High heels 7:05 Changing clothes 7:29 Falling asleep 7:58 Smoking 8:37 #drivingtips #safedriving #safety Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - The problem is that when music is blaring in your ears, you can’t hear anything else, including other drivers honking at you. - When you eat while driving, you get awfully distracted. Plus, greasy food and sweet things can make you sleepy. If you absolutely must drink something while driving, it should be a bottle of water. - When the airbag gets deployed during a crash, it sends the front passenger's feet flying right into their face at a high speed. On top of that, when you're sitting with your feet up, you have less control over your body, which is another reason why you might fail to prevent trauma. - You should remember that when you recline your seat back, slip your shoes off, or prop your foot on the seat, you’re literally preparing yourself to get drowsy. - The most dangerous among all are digital billboards showing full-motion videos, including exciting commercials with bright pictures and rapid movements. - Drivers should keep their curiosity in check; otherwise, it may lead to traffic congestion or, even worse, other road accidents. - Never allow your pet to sit in your lap: it may accidentally scratch your face or bump into your arm; and chances are this will cause an accident. - You should remember that using your phone while driving causes an alarming number of car crashes. - According to sleep researchers, snoozing passengers, especially those in the front seat, make the driver feel sleepy as well. - When a driver lights a cigarette while the car is moving, getting dangerously distracted is not the only problem. When they open the window to let the smoke out, the outside wind may blow the burning ash from the cigarette right into their eyes! Instantly improve your English with 3 easy words!

22:53
Improve how you sound in English by mastering when these three words are used! I've met thousands of English learners at all levels. Most of them, even the advanced students, make mistakes with the words "a", "the", and "to". These are some of the most common words we use, so in this lesson I'm going to teach you how we use these words. I don't want to look just at grammar; I want you to understand these words and why we use them. If you're an advanced English student, this will be a great review for you. If you're a beginner, try to understand this and save yourself years of English mistakes. TAKE THE QUIZ: https://www.engvid.com/instantly-improve-your-english-with-3-easy-words/ TRANSCRIPT Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo. The things I do for love. There's not a thing... Hi. James from engVid. Today's lesson is about instantly improving. Now, I know... "Instant", what does that mean? People say it all the time. I want to show you a little trick that will make your English sound better instantly, and I will give you a technique that you can use after to help practice this. What I have found are students have a mistake or make a mistake when they drop these three words, and because of that I know you're not a native speaker. But today I'm going to address that, show you the three words... Okay? Explain why, and then I will give you a technique that you can use at home soon as you go back over this video or any video to practice it, and you will get instantly better. 10-20%. Okay? Want to know what I'm talking about? Let's go to the board and look at something you've learned, but today you're going to understand. You ready? So, Mr. E said: "Which three words can help you sound like a native speaker?" I'm going to help you a little bit by doing this, and then we're going to go to the board. The words I'm talking about, and you might not consider them words but they are words are: "a" or "an"... Okay, and I consider that one word because it's modified. Right? "The" and "to". Of course you're going to say: "Yeah, James, we know all these. We learned this at beginner, so how does that instantly help me improve my English?" The problem is this: When a person knows something they will talk, when they understand they will change their behaviour or they will use the information. Many students know about articles and the preposition "to", but they actually don't use them in sentences. Many times I've heard students go... Say: "I need to go work tonight." Soon as you say that I know you're not a native speaker. Or if they say: "I bought car yesterday" or "I bought food..." Not "some food". "I bought apple yesterday at the store." I'm like: "A-... You mean an apple, right?" They don't think to say it, because they know: "Teacher, you know what I'm saying." And I go: "Yeah, I know what you're saying, but the way you said it I know English is not your first language." So what I want to do is get you to come back to understanding, not just knowing why these words are important, the fact that, especially with the articles we're going to talk about, they are in most of the sentences. You can almost not get by a sentence without using them. So let's go to the board and take a look. First, what is an article? Well, you'll see an article is the letter "a" or "an". Quickly on that one, "an" is used when we have a vowel sound, sound... Not a... Not just a vowel. So when you say: "A apple", we know "a" and "a" make it difficult for us to actually get it out and for you to understand, so we add: "an" to put a consonant to make it easier for the listener. "I want an apple." Oh, okay, cool. How about "hour"? Teacher, that has an "h" in front of it. I'm like: "Enh?" But we say: "hour", we don't say: "h-our", because with "a" we have to say: "an hour", and that once again tells me one hour. You keep noticing I keep saying "one". I'll explain in a second. Now, this is what we call and indefinite article. I.e. it's not special. When I say to you: "I want a marker", a marker. All right? I'm talking about this. See this? They're all basically the same. I don't care what type of marker. "A" just means generally speaking marker. That's why it's indefinite; it's not special. When we look at the word "the", "the" is special. In this case, when I say to you: "I want the marker", which one do you think I'm talking about? Can you see the difference? Clearly. Even if you don't know, you would look and see four, and see this and go: "He's probably talking about this one." So with a definite article what's happening is someone is being very specific. Well, there are two things. They could say something is special or something is specific. Okay? And here we have definite article is "the". "Tell the man I like him." Okay? "Tell the man", in this case both of us have to know what you're talking about, because if there are 10 men you'll go: "Which man?"
The fight against teen suicide begins in the classroom | Brittni Darras | TEDxMileHigh

13:22
We’ve heard it in the news – the U.S. is gripped by an epidemic of teen suicide. Following the suicide of one student and the attempted suicide of another, high school teacher Brittni Darras realized that just watching for the signs isn’t enough. But how do we begin to tackle such a complicated and insurmountable problem? The answer is surprisingly simple. Brittni Darras is an English teacher at Rampart High School in Colorado Springs. Following the attempted suicide of one of Rampart’s students, Brittni wrote each of her 130 students personalized cards, earning her worldwide attention, the AspenPointe Hero of Mental Health Award, and the Mayor’s Young Leader Award in the category of Innovation in Education. Brittni continues to advocate for suicide prevention and mental health awareness. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Do Schools Discriminate Against Boys?

06:07
Exam results suggest that girls are overtaking boys across the academic spectrum. Is this really the case? In an article in The Province (June 12, 2014) entitled “The Guys Crisis: Boys are falling badly behind the girls at school,” author Paul Luke states, “By high school, girls’ grade point average outshines that of boys. In Canada, women make up almost 60 percent of university students.” He explains the phenomenon by suggesting that for too long the needs of girls were overlooked in school and now that things are more equitable, girls outshine boys in learning. Recently, however, Dr. Jim Dueck, author, former Assistant Deputy Minister of Education for the province of Alberta, and former head of Accountability and Student Assessment, performed a revealing analysis on current practices in student assessment. The results were not only remarkable but very disturbing, exposing what might well be an institutional suppression of the performance of male students. The Constitution, the Articles, and Federalism: Crash Course US History #8

13:04
In which John Green teaches you about the United States Constitution. During and after the American Revolutionary War, the government of the new country operated under the Articles of Confederation. While these Articles got the young nation through its war with England, they weren't of much use when it came to running a country. So, the founding fathers decided try their hand at nation-building, and they created the Constitution of the United States, which you may remember as the one that says We The People at the top. John will tell you how the convention came together, some of the compromises that had to be made to pass this thing, and why it's very lucky that the framers installed a somewhat reasonable process for making changes to the thing. You'll learn about Shays' Rebellion, the Federalist Papers, the elite vs rabble dynamic of the houses of congress, and start to find out just what an anti-federalist is. 10 Times TOYS Got Kids In TROUBLE With Police Officers

But some children manage to find no small amount of trouble just playing with actual toys. In this video, we’ll show you ten times that something as simple as talking about your favorite toy with your classmates lead to kids getting in a whole heap of trouble. We know that schools generally have pretty strict rules about what you can and cannot bring onto school property, but sometimes their zero tolerance policies seem to make zero sense, like when one little girl found herself suspended from her kindergarten class for daring to bring a plastic bubble making machine with her to class. Given the choice between Nerf or nothing, most schools would rather their students bring nothing. One group of kids found out the hard way when they were suspended for bringing in Nerf products that they intended to use for a math presentation-one that had been cleared in advance by their teacher. Another kid made the mistake of leaving a Nerf dart in his pocket before heading to school, and when it was discovered he was severely punished. We’ve heard about fidget spinners being banned in schools, but we’ll for one kid, using a fidget spinner to help him concentrate on his schoolwork was enough to have his family investigated. Mom Goes to Daughter's Daycare, Looks down in Horror When She Sees What Staff Did to Her Feet

04:55
Millions of parents work, and they need to put their children in daycare. For many parents, this isn't easy. In a perfect world, parents would be able to spend their days with their children. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, and people need to work for a living. Before parents settle on a daycare center, they often do a great deal of research. They want to make sure that the teachers are highly educated, that the center has all of the necessary credentials, and that they have a good reputation. Parents need to know that they can trust the people they are leaving their children with. Trusting a complete stranger with your child is scary. What would you do if you find a daycare center who you can trust, and over a year later, that trust is broken. This is what happened to Jessica Hayes. Jessica Hayes is a mother who lives in Elkin, North Carolina. When her daughter was six weeks old, Jessica had to find a daycare center that she could trust to care for her daughter. As much as she hated to leave her daughter with strangers, her maternity leave was older, and she had to go back to work. She needed to support her family and going back to work was the way to do it. After extensive research, Jessica decided to send her daughter to The Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Daycare. She heard great stories about the daycare center, and she liked that it was run by people who truly believe in their faith. Jessica thought that it would be a great place to send her little girl. For over a year, things were great. Unfortunately, 16-months later, Jessica's trust was shattered. Mom goes to daughter's daycare, looks down in horror when she sees what staff did to her feet. Jessica went to pick her 17-month-old daughter up from daycare just like she did every other day. She gathered her daughter's things and took her home. When she got there, she went to take off her little girl's shoes, and she noticed that there was masking tape wrapped around her feet and ankles. The tape was so tight around her baby girl's feet that it left an indent in her ankles. The entire area was bruised and swollen. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. Jessica's daughter had just learned to take off her shoes. She loved to take them off and then try to put them back on. Jessica watched her do it all the time, and she assumed that she would do it at daycare as well. She never expected that her daughter's teachers would tape the shoes on her feet to keep her from doing it. Jessica says that she assumed that her daughter's new behavior was aggravating her teachers. Jessica assumed that the teachers didn't mean her daughter any harm. They probably thought that they had come up with a clever solution to the problem. Even though the daycare teachers likely didn't mean her daughter any harm, they did harm her, and to Jessica, that was unforgivable. Her trust in the school was immediately broken. Jessica was so livid about the condition of her daughter's ankles that she took photos of the damage that the tape had caused. She also took a video of herself taking the tape off her little girl. She was so upset that she decided to post the photos on Facebook. She wanted to let other parents know what happened to her daughter as a warning. When Jessica posted her photos, another mother, Megan Howlett Cheek commented on the post. She was another mother whose daughter came home from daycare on the same day as Jessica's with masking tape around her feet and ankles. Jessica was outraged that it happened to another child that day. Jessica called the daycare center immediately to report what happened. She told them that they could see photos of her daughter's bruised and swollen ankles. When the daycare center saw the footage of Jessica's daughter's ankles, they fired the two employees who were responsible. In her post, Jessica said that she didn't want to mention the names of the employees who had taped her daughter's shoes on to respect their privacy. Jessica felt very welcomed by the daycare director after the incident. As far as the other parents, she didn't feel quite as welcome. After the Facebook post went viral, many of the parents would give her dirty looks. She was shocked by this. She says that she has never felt so unwelcome by people to claim to be Christians in her entire life. She says that because of these dirty looks, she is currently looking for a new daycare situation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to Facts Verse: http://bit.ly/FactsVerse ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/factsverse/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/factsverse/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/factsverse6030/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.factsverse.com

The problem with online charter schools

05:22
States are taking a multi-million dollar gamble on a technology that doesn’t seem to work. Watch: http://bit.ly/2EiUnqy - The colleges where the American dream is still alive. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO In 32 states plus DC, students of all ages can bypass brick-and-mortar schools for online charters. Most of these schools are run by publicly-traded companies, which means the profits they earn after running schools with taxpayer funds go toward paying their shareholders. These schools enroll less than 1% of American public school students right now, but the share is growing. In their ads, these schools promise autonomy and flexibility. They appeal to students eager to escape bullies or classrooms where they feel unsuccessful. But the data show that attending these schools sets kids back academically— by a lot. And despite their poor performance, states have been slow to close these schools down. Reading list: Arianna Prothero and Maya Riser-Kositsky calculated the lobbying and campaign spending totals for K12 and Connections Academy for Education Week/edweek.org: https://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2016/11/03/outsized-influence-online-charters-bring-lobbying-a.html This 2015 study from the Center for Research on Education Outcomes at Stanford University is the most comprehensive nationwide look at online charters to date. Researchers there found that attending an online charter school for a year is equivalent to missing 180 days of instruction in math, and 72 days of instruction in reading: https://credo.stanford.edu/pdfs/OnlineCharterStudyFinal2015.pdf June Ahn (NYU) and Andrew McEachin (RAND) did a similar study of Ohio’s online charter schools and got similar results. They found that even high-achieving students who attending online charters in that state ended the year significantly behind their peers in brick-and-mortar schools: http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.3102/0013189X17692999 Thanks to folks at the National Education Policy Center for sharing their data on online charter enrollment from 2011 through 2016. 12 Things That Ruin a First Impression Immediately

10:09
Scientists have proven that we form our first impression about someone within the first 7 seconds of meeting them, and 55% of the first impression is based on appearance. Pay attention to 12 common things you should avoid not to ruin the first impression. In his research, psychologist William F. Chaplin found that people with a weak handshake are instantly judged as being shy, anxious, uninterested, or even completely incompetent. If you place your hands on the table, don’t squeeze them too tight or lay them flat with your palms down. This makes people feel like you want to control them. Also, don’t forget about the role that culture plays here. A 2007 study showed that people who maintain eye contact during a conversation are often seen as more confident, attentive, intelligent, and trustworthy. Try not to focus the conversation only on yourself and your issues. It’s always a good idea to be attentive to your conversation partner. Tapping can indicate nervousness, irritation, or impatience. People might even think that you’re purposely trying to irritate others or draw attention to yourself. And while cracking your knuckles can help relieve stress, it’s one of the most annoying sounds according to a survey by The New York Times. A study from the University of Essex showed that even just having one’s phone on the table next to them reduces a conversation’s quality and the participants’ engagement. So leave it in your bag or in your pocket. Running late to a meeting with people you don’t know or have a formal relationship with will shed a guaranteed negative light on you. You’ll seem like an unreliable and unorganized person that doesn’t respect people enough to value their time. Music: About That Oldie Vibe Tracks Josefina Quincas Moreira Merengue de Limon Quincas Moreira Pink Lemonade Silent Partner https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS A weak handshake 0:38 Keeping your hands in the wrong position 1:25 Chewing gum 2:15 Avoiding eye-contact 3:01 Playing with your hair 3:41 Picking the wrong conversation topics 4:25 Invading someone’s personal space 5:07 Making distracting noises 5:49 Constantly checking your phone 6:34 Forgetting people’s names 7:23 Being late 8:00 The wrong attire 8:47 SUMMARY -If you wanna give the right impression of confidence and capability, remember to grip the other person’s hand firmly and for no longer than 2 seconds. -Put your hands on your lap if you want, but never keep them in your pockets because this gives the impression that you’re hiding something. -Chewing on gum makes you look immature, self-centered, and somewhat low-brow. -Don't be afraid to lock eyes with another person from time to time instead of constantly looking around, especially when you meet them for the first time. -If you tend to play with your hair when you’re nervous, try to kick this habit, you could be sending them the wrong message. -Play it safe and avoid the general “taboo” topics out there. They include health problems, money, religion, politics, or personal problems and complaints. -When it comes to meeting someone for the first time, keep a minimum of 4 feet between the two of you. -It can be nearly impossible to control nervous tapping, but you have to try, especially during important meetings or presentations. -Even if you’re just checking the time on your screen, it comes off as extremely impolite when you do it during a conversation. -Immediately repeate someone’s name after you’ve been introduced. In case you forget the name, just play it cool and try to avoid using phrases where you have to name the other person. -Leave your house in enough time so that you don’t have to run to your meeting. You’ll be all disheveled and unfocused, and that looks bad too. -If you’re meeting somebody for the very first time, again, especially in more formal situations, try to be conservative in your choice of clothing, be polished, and don’t use heavy perfume or tons of makeup.
