The Tech That Could Fix One of Wind Power's Biggest Problems

03:09
Hello World’s Ashlee Vance paid a recent visit to Iceland’s capital city of Reykjavik to see the next part of the green energy story. He found a start-up called Icewind that is building a new type of funky wind turbine designed to perform well in low-wind conditions but also to slow itself down in high-winds, preventing it from catching on fire or ripping apart. How advanced is Russian missile systems in 2019 - in depth analysis

05:00
Russia has the best defense system in the world. The air defense technology of Russia makes it an impregnable stronghold. But, how strong or advanced is Russia in defense? This comparison of Russin and US defense technology shows the Russian air defense system is impregnable and the US navy is Russia's nightmare. Russia-US conflict is highly unlikely as they are scared of each other. Russia’s defence is best in the world, while the USA has a strong navy. Russia cannot be conquered and the USA cannot be attacked. The US-Russia relation is always on edge, but it will never cross that one boundary, set by their mutual respect for each other.

Distributed Systems in One Lesson by Tim Berglund

49:00
Normally simple tasks like running a program or storing and retrieving data become much more complicated when we start to do them on collections of computers, rather than single machines. Distributed systems has become a key architectural concern, and affects everything a program would normally do—giving us enormous power, but at the cost of increased complexity as well. Using a series of examples all set in a coffee shop, we’ll explore topics like distributed storage, computation, timing, messaging, and consensus. You'll leave with a good grasp of each of these problems, and a solid understanding of the ecosystem of open-source tools in the space.

Jay's Analysis - Philosophy of Systems Analysis

46:51
http://jaysanalysis.com Systems analysis shows an inherent logic and rationality to the structures and substructres under review, pointing to a larger meta-structure of rational analysis en toto. In this more advanced discussion, I show how philosophy is directly relevant to this field, how individual beliefs, economics, electronics, nations and geo-political structures operate on certain patterns and norms. This is directly relevant to entities like corporations or intelligence agencies.

KBC IoE Webinar - Benefits of Modelling Steam and Power Systems

28:13
During this webinar, KBC discusses the benefits of modelling steam and power systems. The webinar discussion includes: • Components of a typical steam system • What needs to be included on a steam model? • Benefits of having a steam model • Modelling approaches to get the best results from your steam model • Case Studies Although a site may already be effectively managed by equipped staff, or seem too simple to benefit from modelling its utility (steam) system, the truth is there is always something that isn’t being considered and complexities of the site are often underestimated. If we consider all factors that affect the running of a utility system, such as planned and unplanned process changes, seasonal variations, equipment constraints (e.g. boiler and turbine limits), changing fuel costs and availability, complex power tariff structures, etc., it becomes clear that, without the proper tools, finding the best operating mode at any time is a daunting task.

UML Class Diagram Tutorial

10:17
Learn how to make classes, attributes, and methods in this UML Class Diagram tutorial. There's also in-depth training and examples on inheritance, aggregation, and composition relationships. UML (or Unified Modeling Language) is a software engineering language that was developed to create a standard way of visualizing the design of a system. And UML Class Diagrams describe the structure of a system by showing the system’s classes and how they relate to one another. This tutorial explains several characteristics of class diagrams. Within a class, there are attributes, methods, visibility, and data types. All of these components help identify a class and explain what it does. There are also several different types of relationships that exist within UML Class Diagrams. Inheritance is when a child class (or subclass) takes on all the attributes and methods of the parent class (or superclass). Association is a very basic relationship where there's no dependency. Aggregation is a relationship where the part can exist outside the whole. And finally, Composition is when a part cannot exist outside the whole. A class would be destroyed if the class it's related to is destroyed. A Combinatorial Approach to Vulnerability Analysis of the Power Grid - Ali Pinar

56:16
Ali Pinar 2014-2015 Seminar Series January 14, 2015 The need for improving security standards for electric power systems is well recognized. Such efforts however, are hindered by lack of decision support tools that can incorporate security into the decision making process. The current practice is to protect the system against known or anticipated failures either by using a post-processing phase or by explicit enumeration of the known cases. These approaches not only lack scalability to larger systems or higher security standards, but also are limited to predicted failures, which is a significant shortcoming with the uncertainty of the renewable generation. In this talk, we will start with introducing our combinatorial techniques for vulnerability analysis of electric power systems, where we try to find small groups of components, whose loss will cause significant disturbances. Then we will describe how our vulnerability analysis techniques can be incorporated into the decision making process, where vulnerability analysis becomes a constraint to another optimization problem. For instance, can we solve the unit-commitment problem such that the system can survive loss of any combination of a specified number of its elements? We will also briefly discuss our recent work on how to include uncertainty in these problems.
